Just received my P800 tax calculation.

Quick read on the front and thought I had an underpayment.

No problem, it's happened a couple of times before, £40 - £50. Not a big amount.

Turned it over, bottom line said over £3000! Gutted! HTF did that happen?

Sat down and re-read. They OWE ME over £3000! Happy days! 😀

Question is - do I tell Mrs Gob? 🙂

Leave it a month to allow time for the next letter to arrive. 🙂

Half on a dirty weekend

If I was spending £1500 on a dirty weekend it wouldn't be with the Mrs! 😀

Leave it a month to allow time for the next letter to arrive.

I have already phoned Liverpool tax office to double check. All looks good. 🙂

Half of your £500 windfall on the wife, then the other half on a bike.

Sorry to dampen your enthusiasm but whenever HMRC have given me anything, they have taken it back the next year.

So to answer your question, yes you do need a new bike 😀

Excellent. However you'd need more than the other £1,500 for divorce lawyer !!

Happy days indeed. £1000 on treats for you both, save the rest.

have you had a change in circumstances? for example, a big reduction in pay, or a change to employment benefits?

or, is this from a year in the past, later than 2013/14?

if the answer to both of these is NO, i'd be dubious. The user in liverpool will just be telling you whats on the screen

EDIT, we're at the time of year when incomplete accounts are being fixed, so it could be they've managed to fix a previous year, and you're overpaid...

As above, I got a £268(ish) rebate once. Then, after I'd spent it, they sent me a letter saying I owed them £268...

Yes.

I changed jobs last May.

Apparently there was some missing personal allowances.

Surely that's all that matters? What's calculated by the system and displayed on the screen?

Not if the system recalculates it with new data 🙂

But, yeah that seems right, my fee for putting your mind at rest in 2990. paypal is fine, thanks

They have been a lot quicker this year ! Last year but one I didn't get my rebate until march this year, so I got 2 this year as last year's came last week. Not that fat however, result ! And you should put it into your pension plan, of course, dah.

The letter I received today seems to show that I owe them £231.
Great.

I had a cheque from them a few weeks ago for just over £150, same circumstances when I changed employers last year.
Went down the bank the same day to pay it into my account!

Had a massive underpayment demand of about 14k several years ago, tried arguing etc with them but no luck despite me being sure of my facts.

Paid up, having to put some on a credit card as did not have enough spare cash and lo and behold 1 month later they recalculated it all and gave me 13.5 k back.

might be tempted to bank it for a few months before I spent it unless you can afford to repay it easily.
