[Closed] (Hive) TRV - radiator valve pin too long

I've just got some Hive TRVs. Going by the other threads recently I'm not sure that was such a great idea, but we'll see.

Most of them have set up fine, but one will simply not fit on the rad valve. The pin is just too long, and pops the pin in the adapter (it's a M28 adapter) out, leaving the radiator pin unable to be pushed by the TRV.

Has anyone had this and got a cunning solution? I'm thinking I'll either need to shorten the pin or do something with a couple of adapters to lift the TRV up.

you could just swap the old trv 'base' for a different unit? they start at around £6 at screwfix

Grind off a bit of the pin?

Swapping the base is a PITA, drain and refill system + add new fernox etc...

? Do you need an adapter specific to your valve

https://www.manualslib.com/manual/2040234/Hive-Radiator-Valve.html?page=7#manual

I seem to remember having to internally adjust a non hive trv to change the setting when I replaced the trv to a different make.

I think grinding a mm off the pin might be the way to go. Changing the base would be a right faff.

Don't screw it down fully?

I had a stuck trv to deal with today, well more precisely the valve so I whipped the trv off then unscrewed the internal hex. I have no idea what I was thinking but the result was predictable!

Hypothetically that's a great idea. But it won't even thread on without popping the pin from the adapter.
