Thought I'd do a separate thread to what boiler thread.
Our ancient old system used a wired dial room stat. The boiler guy recommended installing hive as it would be cheaper that buying a remote room stat & controller.
We don't need all the bells and whistles, just the basics really which isn't an annual subscription I don't think?
Good idea to go for it?
Thanks again for any help.
I went with a Drayton Wiser instead- you don't get all of the options etc but it's not on a bloody subscription, and you do get the modern basics. Plus radiator thermostats etc if you want em. Very easy to fit, too. If it's a combi boiler and not on different zones or something like that, the actual boiler controlling stuff is incredibly simple, it's all just a fancy switch really
TADO gets my vote - again, like the Drayton there's no subscription and pretty easy to fit too.
We have the Hive, no annual subscription and it looks after heating, hot water and some hive lights. Sometimes a bit buggy but we can’t really fault it over the 4 or 5 years we have had it.
Yeah we have Hive and no subscription. It's fine. Bit faffy sometimes, but on the whole I'm happy.
Hive user here too, since 2019. Pretty straightforward to fit if the backing plate on the receiver that's wired to the boiler is the same (it has been on my last two houses) and the app is easy to use. No subscription and system is linked to lighting and motion sensors.
Hive. Subscription free, Combi boiler, plugs, bulbs, door sensor, have played with motion sensors. Integrates to Alexa. Works for us,
Thanks, looks like it's worth a go then.

I acquired one of those when I moved house last year. Absolute pain in the backside, took a week just to get it to talk to my telephone, hateful thing, still doesn't work properly. I'd much rather just have a programable timer on the wall. Nothing is better with an app. Keep it simple.
Yeah I'm in the keep it simple club. Installed hive 2018, 3 units giving 3 heating zones plus HW. Never fitted the internet hub. Don't use an app. The room stats are easy to program directly. Hate internet connected shite that might have some "upgrade" and stop working. CBA .
Right must go and knap some more flints....
