I'd like to get an amp and some speakers to connect a Mbp or iPad to. I don't want to use any wireless tech such as airplay as I currently use that on my old system. The dropouts and lag drive me nuts sometimes.
I'll also be using it to play along to tracks - backing tracks, albums and the odd songsterr/guitar pro tab (hence the comment above about lag).
What would folk who know about such matters suggest with a budget of 3-500ish?
Would I need a dac before the amp?
Browsing richer sounds at the mo and am spoilt for choice
3.5mm/phono jack to an ebayed:
Cyrus/Marantz/Nad etc amp to B&W 602 S2/3
Not gonna win prizes for looks, but it'll sound superb!
Depends which route you want to go down. This would be mine.
ACTIVE! ACTIVE! ACTIVE!
For the money nothing will come close.
And a cheap DAC. Beresford, Cambridge, whatever.
You'll never buy passive again.
Buy my Rega Brio 3 amp in the classifieds for £200 and get a Maplin DAC for £36. I was running that setup with a set of Naim Intro2 speakers from ebay (£200) and the sound was sublime, or you could get some Q Accoustics speakers new for little money and they are supposed to be good.
DAC would be essential as the analogue O/P from a MBP will be pish. You can get active speakers with a built in DAC these days. Sometimes the pro kit on ebay looks good value.
