Flick 5 live on now and listen to Alastair Darlings pre-budget report for more than 2 minutes. Without losing consciousness or the will to live.
My god! Now I know why Gordon gave him the job. He makes him sound virile, dynamic and a veritable ball of energy.
Go on, try it? See how long you last

Bingo duty to fall from 22% to 20% in April.
Couragous stuff!!
I'm interested in this boiler scrapage scheme though...
I'm interested in this boiler scrapage scheme though.
Thinking of getting a new Mrs? 😉
boiler scrappage does sound good (purely talkign selfishly..)
Gutted about my bonus.
missed it...anyone got any further info on the boiler scheme?
if its anything like any of the other headline schemes this shower have come up with it will be virtually impossible to use or the costs of using it will outweigh the scheme benefits.
Pretty much all the lowcarbon grants that youd think could be claimed for energy efficient heating systems in a new build are impossible to get to if you are building a holistic system with multiple contractors without using a specially certificated installer (who will then charge more, cancelling out the grant benefit).
Or...the business loan guarantee scheme - no f***ing use for helping with tooling costs without a full order book, let alone finding a bank who's willing to loan to a start up with capital investment needs - web designers and, dog walkers and aromatherapists? no problem. Engineering or manufacturing? no chance! Or grants for small company help - bloody ace if you want a help with 50% of the costs of some consultancy you dont need, but no good if you want some assistance in investing in manufacturing set up costs.
Most of these schemes just aren't worth the newsprint they end up being written on.
I think it depends Stoner - the car one was simple for people to understand and use as consumers. I've no idea what the work was like for the retailer or manufacturer but it did seem to boost demand.
thanks wwaswas. Just moved house and got hideous old behemoth boiler eating our cash on a regular basis.
nothing terribly precise, really. I'll be keeping an eye on it though we;'re in the same predicament - old bolier but it's still imping along and I'm loath to spend out £2k to replace it.
I'm not surprised. You could get a nice frame for that 🙂
yes, although my wife doesn't quite see it in those terms...
bit vague at the mo but £400 being mentioned
