yup - been putting off the new discs and pads all round on the car for too long, other car needs a service, son needs a new bed, list goes on...
Could be worse. My colleague is getting married on Saturday, the bill so far is 12K. 😯
He'd rather be spending it on bikes.

You mean like those months where the car needs a service and new tyres at the same time as the insurance on it for the year falls due, the washing machine packs in, you get told you've not been paying enough council tax and you have to pay for new school uniforms for the upcoming term?
Yep can definitely empathise with (most) of that (we're not at school uniform stage yet!)

geetee1972 - Yup, that about spot on, that's been May to July. I'm hoping August will be a change for the better/richer.
I had a spell exactly like this 2 years ago and it was very tough! Facing redundancy at the time too, so that helped me get pretty sorted.
The thought of no income made me sit down and write a spreadsheet with a budget of all my spend
monthly: house and bills, fuel
annual: van tax, insurance, service, tyres, house maintenance, holidays
etc.
I can see where all my money goes (pretty scary!). I total that all up, divide by 12 and stick that away each month with a bit of a buffer.
Week to week I feel less well off but no surprises when the van needs 4 tires or we want to go skiing.
It's pretty OCD and not for everyone but you never know, could be a tip that works for someone else?!

Car service, MOT, and new tyres, and tax. Every year I remind myself to spread this out a bit, every blinking year I forget...
two days into two weeks off and the cash point says no ! Im very (insert swear word of choice) ......... !

i really feel for you poor people having to budget and scrape so you can afford your skiing holidays.
Thats why I spend so much time on this forum, to stop myself from going out and spending money.
