Hi guys,

I have a small one-storey house that is heated by 3 storage heaters. The largest is in the lounge but I've noticed even with the input set to 6 and output turned to 0 overnight it is not getting very warm.

I've looked into what the fault may be and have seen it may be the elements that need replacing or the thermal input could be cutting off.

The heater is hot in the middle but cold on the edges so that to me indicates it is most likely the elements.

However, it is an automatic model, albeit an old one, and I was wondering whether the fact that I am using the logburner in the lounge in the evening could be effecting the storage heater?

My understanding is that the auto models make adjustments of their own regardless of my manual input selected and if it is warm in the room it will adjust itself to take a lesser charge.

Is this right and if so am I better getting a manual control one for the lounge?

That sounds right - even older ones often had a temperature sensor and in a vague way tailored input energy to match.

Keep the log burner going/low?

Check to see if any of the thermal links have blown, some old units have more than one

Are they plug in ones to sockets or wired via a contactor (massive relay) in the consumer unit? Sometimes if the contactor is really old, the contacts degrade and lose connectivity.
