I`m in the process of setting up a new venture with as a pest controller.
I need to create a unique logo and want something interesting, relevant and unusual.
My thoughts are that the 5squid app and suchlike just rob a logo from a company far away so i dont want to use them if possible.
Company name not to be used, just need the logo.
My own idea is an image of a facehugger alien (top down view) with the bio hazard circles overlaid. I love movies and aliens is a favourite so this feels apt.
So, if anyone has other ideas chip in and how would be the best/easiest/cheapest way to create this in a useable format for a new website??
Out now for a few hours but will be back after that.
Thanks in advance.
THE DISPATCHER

OK
I ., personally would avoid the biohazard . If you are going to be working in food establishments then 'bait' cannot be a bio-hazard anymore ( I may be wrong on this but I am sure for Organic / Soil association / SALSA I am correct)
An exagerted wedge od swiss cheese with a mouse nibbling on it might work?

Not trolling but why do you need a unique logo, especially if you’re doing it on the cheap? Seems a bit pointless if you’ve a company name that explains what you do

Doesn't feel appropriate in any way, shape or form. And don't think about what you like, think about what your clients want to see. Do a quick Google of 'pest control logos' and get some inspiration from there - if it works for others, it'll work for you.
OP - Do you drive a Ford Mustang?
@Kilo i just want something unusual. The idea is this will go on uniform/ppe and a vehicle. I kinda wanted the film references as after a quick google there are thousands of cloned/similar ones based around bugs, rats mice etc. Using a facehugger is infestation extreme;) So hopefully creating something that could stand out and be a possible talking point.
Nope, no Mustang.
You'll need to check trademarks as a logo can be trademarked as an identifying mark for a company. Also unlike a word/name, they can be copyrighted also.
Movie references are tricky. Big movie companies have loads of registered trademarks for film references. Names more so than logos.
Not that you can't use something that's trademarked if it isn't confused with their business (totally different line of business in particular). But with big companies you'll get a fight with lawyers.
@gooner - but will people see it and think "ahh, a quirky and unusual pest controller, I'll book them' or 'Hmmm, what do they do? Are they industrial cleaners? Work in bio-hazard? Hmm, still not sure, I'll call these other guys that clearly say they are pest controllers'.
But is someone see’s www.gooner69pestcontrol on your kit rather than an alien chewing a rats arse I kinda think they’ve got more chance of figuring out who you are , what you do and how to contact you (btw ive copyrighted gooner69pestcontrol now 😉 )
@Johndoh, its a thought, but company name will be larger and says pest control so hopefully ok.
First off, what is "pest control"? Wasp nests? Mice? In a domestic or a commercial context?
You need to tell your potential clients what you do.
Secondly, try and be professional/boring. Quirky film references don't inspire confidence where money is being spent. Pretty much what JohnDoh said about what you want vs. what others expect to see.
company name will be larger and says pest control
Then just have that and forget the irrelevant film reference.
Not everyone watches every film, so you might be wasting your time in appealing to an customer base that has no idea what you are talking about!
Cheap. Original. Good.
Chose two.
We use Kestral pest control
Have a guess what their logo is?
and its not a baby robin
Dunno if it screams "reputable pest controller", more "evil organisation from sc-fi movie", but I think it's a cool idea!

Website almost done, company registered 😉
@Zilgo thanks that the kinda thing i had in mind. When all is done i will post link to the website.
The name can have a lot to do with a logo over what the company actually does. The facehugger might be a bit of a stretch for most people who aren't familiar with the Alien movies.

Although I imagine a certain entertainment companies trademark lawyers might have something to say.
how about a picture of Jacob Rees Mogg with a shotgun against his temple and brains being blown out of the other side of his head?
Just a thought.
Whenever I see hazmat symbols being misused like this idea, I think 'what a bunch of dicks' and refuse to have anything to do with them.
Plain, vanilla, boring, entirely predictable. It is these words you want to focus on, not wacky or 'talking point'.
Keep it simple.
And I quote, "the best design is the simplest one that works".
Feel free to completely ignore this advice, though!
That's brilliant - makes me want to start a pest control business...
...whilst listening to Public Enemy
fill your boots. Plenty of ideas
even better - don't look at other pest control services, look at all successful businesses and look for patterns
why not a business name that is a single word. easy to remember and use, then put 'pest services' or whatever underneath the name in the branding etc
Pest Western Controls?

Exomorphs..

Well it is just a bug hunt:)
^ good idea – how about ‘Apple’?
May need to ask Tim Apple
