You are starting to sound like Elfin. Don't say you're not, because you can't. Can you? 😀

Alan Ashworth, 56, from Bromley, left his car after hitting gridlock in Kings Road in Chelsea about 2.15pm and had to walk two miles to work in Kensington.

Why the bloody hell was he driving??

Do they complain when the roads are shut for the London marathon?

Probably. Some people just complain.

I'm guessing this was a test to see how the closures would work on the day otherwise they would have used rolling road blocks like they do in the ToB.

It must be a bit of a pisser to be sat there for an hour after the race has passed, espeicailly as it would have gone through in a couple of seconds.

Doesn't say how far he drove before abandoning the car

Just wondering if anyone would give a shit if it was a marathon they closed the roads for?......and I mean the people on here, not the people in that there London. Just because it's bikes doesn't make it a massive balls up

This will just be another case of London being in no way ready for the Olympics and the absolute disaster its going to turn out to be.

I think it's just a case of NIMBY and would apply to anything.

But why did the roads need to close so early, and not open up until later after the event?

Sounds like crap planning to me.

Christ, I've agreed with something from the DM...

I'm wondering if they did it this way out of fear of road tampering, carpet tacks etc. Warn everyone sufficiently, and don't close the roads effectively, and it only takes one idiot..

That's pretty much it. The great all-encompassing reasons of "security" and "health and safety". Normal principles are that you mention either of those two and no-one should ever question you further... 😉

It wasn't perfect but I was talking to someone earler today who was very closely connnected with the event and he said how great it was from the outside: Tour de France style crowds, great atmosphere etc etc. He made a few comments about the actual running of it and how it could be improved but said that's why we have test events, no big deal.

I couldn't make it past page 1 of the Daily Wail comments page without wanting to kill them all though.

I assumed the road closures extended well beyond the race as this was a much shorter race than the actual Olympic one will be.
I.e - keep them shut for a comparitive amount of time that will actually be required inorder to see what effect it would have?

All the complainers need to realise that it's exactly these sort of things that test events are run for. Give your comments, leave your feedback and get over it!

I was guessing that he had come from Bromley (since it said that was where he is from). Bromley to Kensington is a ridiculous journey to take a car on.

Wonder what happeNEd last week when the police let the riooters burn buses and cars on the streets of london town, also dont the motorists down there ever read a paper or watch tv,there would have been plenty of advice to avoid certain streets, but then most of them are so thick down there they may not have understood the words ROAD CLOSURES, or been able to read a map.

LOL.

scientists should all be bald and bespectacled, usually bearded and engage in weird and unpopular activities such as bicycle riding and not like team sports like football.

The reason people with a full head of hair shouldn't be trusted is because the long terms effects of having lots of folicles working in your head past 35 is well documented. They drive you mad, unpredictable and prone to random, unexplainable acts.

A gazillion barriers to put up and take down innit.

The thread titles missleading.. I thought it would be about the Daily Mail when in fact it's another thread about the road closures for the Road Race Event. 🙄

And yes Londonnnnnners do moan about road closures for the Marathon and the recent Virgin Triathalon.. and anything that blocks the roads TBH, but they've gotten used to this kinda stuff.. Whereas in the sticks, well all hell breaks loose if Auntie Flo' can't read the corner shoppe to get her Battneburg and Gold Top.

🙄

The Mall and Constitution Hill were still closed at 6am Monday morning!
If they had employed more people to move the barriers instead of all the 'jobsworths' telling me that I can't ride my bike down a deserted road there may have been less complaints. The TDF moves a complete stage to a different area overnight.

Oh god, shoot me now, I'm agreeing with the Daily Nazi!!!!!!
