Hi all I am after your help.

(MODS PLEASE DONT DELETE AS THIS ISNT AN AD!!)

We are trying to sell our car but not sure if it is priced to high etc as we have had no interest.....

Its a 2010 mazda 6 sport estate on a 60 plate.

fully loaded sport spec.

2 owners including us

58200 miles

Full history at mazda aprt from last one which I had done at a local mazda specialist.

Last service carried out 22/04/13

New disc and pads on the front last week.

Its in good condition overall but does have the odd stone chip and mark on the alloys which is consistent with the age/mileage.

ok so we bought it last may from mazda for £13500

we are advertising for £10595 which going by all the car valuation sites seems to be a fair price ?

What do you think the problem is selling wise?

Its about 2k cheaper than a similar car from a main dealer?

Not due its 1st MOT until september.

Help me out here please as I need to sell it fairly quickly but dont want to lose to much cash on it?

thanks

Steve

Ebay, 99p start.

You'll find out exactly what the market thinks it's worth.

Found it on eBay I think. Don't think you are a million miles away, and best offer is the best option, I reckon. Your problem is that people with 10k cash to drop on a car are fairly rare, and you are competing with dealers who offer an amount of buyer protection. You are going to have to sit tight, or drop it a grand or two...

Edit; too many reckons...

I could p/x it in at a dealer for a similar amount to what I want but Im looking at buying a VW T5 van from a chap in a private sale for the same sort of price.

There is a 2010 10 plate on there(ebay) with similar mileage but around 5 months older and I have priced it 500 less than that due to not being a dealer etc.

Don't forget that a dealer can inflate a px price to get you to bite, subsidised from overall margin. It's not a fair way of knowing how much he'd actually pay for the car.

The eBay ad? Probably too honest, tbf. (Sadly) If the stone chips and light marks are really insignificant then don't bother mentioning them in a negative way, it subconsciously puts people off. I'd say 'exterior in fantastic condition for the mileage' or similar, which is positive but reminds people that its done 58k and isn't a brand new car. Pics are good, I like the close up showing the colour, it is nice isn't it?

Is it a fair valuation based on mileage? From a car buying perspective that is a highish mileage car. As a base price why not try webuyanycar.com? That way you will have a base price from which to work. Or the other option is to go for a glasses or CAP valuation. I believe you can get a basic valuation off them for free.

If you have had no interest in the car so far that suggests it is either too highly priced for people, not a popular / in demand car or both. And the problem you have is you need a price for it that the market does not seem to be willing to pay

Doesn't look like you've been trying to sell it long - a few days on here and a day on ebay?

Cars can take weeks/months to shift.

OK, going to be brutal... but... sorry.

Your pics... they're rubbish mate... they're outside what some may percieve as a bit of a council estate, however i know where you live as the wife was going to give birth nearby, other won't and it may put them off.

The carpets have dirt on them... Not much, but a little.

The pics don't show a lot.. they show a Mazda... but not the full condition of wheels, the engine bay, the closeup of the wing doesn't show enough.

You last problem is... most people throwing £10,000 want it from a dealer. I spent £8000 on a Mondeo and didn't look at a single private car, i wanted the fallback of a dealer 6 month purchase warranty, the knowledge it had been valetted before collection and fully checked over.

List the history from the garage, full service on date **** etc.

If you want to bring if over (9 miles) we can spend an afternoon with a DAS 6 polisher getting the paintwork perfect mate.

I appreciate what you are saying weeksy about the dealers and I guess that may be my stumbling block !!

I would kill for a sunny day at the moment to get some nice photos of it !

I might take you up on the offer with the Das6 mate, It was done last year but the wife put the car through a car wash whilst I was away !!

Just waiting for some apc and tardis to turn up so I can give it a good clean.

Whereabouts are you ?

High quality pictures of a professionally valeted car will sell it much faster than the pictures you have used.

I valet cars for people who are selling (private and trade) all the time. And the before and after pictures are staggering sometimes, even on cars that look pretty good before.

Splash out on a proper valet and take some decent pictures.

nealglover... the pics show the car just after it was properly machine polished last year. unfortunately the day I took the photos doesn't really do them justice!!

Admittedly the interior pics are crap though!

You'd never know from looking at them mate.

Good trade secret... take them indoors with LOTS of super bright lights.. they highlight the reflectiveness of it etc, they show all the good thing and none of the bad...

Have a look on Ebay at 'Completed listings' (on the left side) and see what they're selling for, rather than their advertised price...

Also have a look at which ones have sold.... check their adverts and see if you can work out why they'd sold.

For a lot of people it's down to convenience. Sometimes that's convenience of paying via Debit card, meaning you're not walking round with £10,000 in cash.... or convenience that they're only 10 miles from you.

when buying cars or motorbikes i'd VERY rarely travel more than 40 miles..... unless it was VERy special or very cheap.

How about selling it at a car auction? Price you get will be closer to px price but unlike px you'll have the cash rather than just the money off a new car.

Get a valuation from these guys - Sure Sell. It's free for valuation. It's run by British Car Auctions (BCA)

Sounds like you've had a good list of valuations, but when I did the mytextcheck £3 HPI a couple of weeks ago they texted me back valuations too, New, Forecourt, Private and Auction values. Just another option.

The outside pictures aren't too bad, but they could be a lot better.
The inside pictures aren't good. A fresh valet and lots of interior pictures would be good.

Also, if the pictures were taken last year, then it won't look as good when people come to see it ?
I would say the pictures need to be taken more recently than 6+ months ago really.

Fwiw I bought (3 months ago) a three yr old one with exact same spec with 57k on, full history, every box ticked as it was ex lease, refurbed wheels, bonnet/bumper resprayed due to stone chips for 9995 from a dealer so you might be a little high on your price.

We will buy your car offered £9300

You've got it advertised £10,595 - but in reality no-one is going to pay more than £10k for it as they'll see the £595 as 'haggling room'.

So in the end you are a few hundred quid short which you will blow on advertising an valeting.

I'd take the £9300 (assuming that is what they'll actually pay that) and put the remainder on a card or something (or sell a bike!!!).

I want as close to 10k for it as possible as any less means that Ive lost to much money on it over a year and it just wont be worth me trying to sell it.

Yes mine is the sport. Bose sound system and all that jazz. It was 3 yrs old mid December so on a 59 plate. It's worth having a look on the black horse car sales web site in Birmingham as they seem to price very competitively.

Presumably that's the same wherever you advertise it, no?

Another interesting tip. I recently sold my car via AutoTrader. Initially I accepted the default advert based on putting the reg into AutoTrader and letting it build up the ad with the right specs. It was a bit bland, so a week later I changed it to be more personable and got an enquiry the same day. The guy had one viewing, gave me a cash deposit and picked it up at the weekend with out even having to negotiate on price.

Yup 185, I didn't bother with the facelift ad I thought the totally newer shape which is now out would sort of be lost in a couple of years when I come to sell. If I was buying again I'd definitely give you 10k for it as it still has warranty etc etc

This.

So at a minimum you'll loose £4k in 12 months, that's nearly £80 per week - and you'd have had to earn the best part of £7-8k to cover the loss...

Here's some advice for you..... Firstly, the car is an excellent car, I've driven one and nearly bought one, but, the best way to find out how your car will fare come resale time is to get lease costs on them. The Mazda has suffered an inferiority complex in recent years and they don't hold a candle to zee Germans in the resale stakes. They did when they came out in 2003, but recently they are neither devoured by fleet of personal users, the lease costs on them being so high is an indicator that they don't hold value well.

Secondly, two year old cars are often in no man's land, they're not pre reg/ex demo's with a healthy discount, nor or they three year old ex lease car's that are in the sub £10K bracket.

The colour isn't going in it's favour, dark blue looks very nice in pearlescent and I've had a 2009 Avensis in the near same colour, looks nice when clean but often looks dull and outdated. I'd bet if if was white or black it would have gone by now.

I would have tried auto trader first, wouldn't even bother with ebay personally. I've had loads of cars over the years and often get bored of them after six months so I've learned the hard way too.

Either keep it for another year or cut your losses. FWIW my 56K 2011 11 Plate 320D M Sport was valued at £9500 by wbac and yesterday I was offered £13K by a BMW dealer. Every car depreciates like a brick, there's no money in motors anymore.

Banks don't dish out £10K loans like they used to and the motor trade now offer balloon payments at the end of a loan, so someone could buy your exact car from a dealer, pay a small monthly payment and in three years hand it back.

The car market is changing fast, it's killing personal sales. Good luck

Cheers for the info matey !!

Im not bored with the car by any means, in fact I would go as far as saying that its the best car that we have owned so far.

Its just Ive always had a hankering after a T5 kombi and have finally persuaded the wife that its a good idea too now that the kids are getting that bit older etc.

I would quite happily keep it another year but by then it will be worth even less and the prices of T5's dont seems to be dropping at all.

It wouldn't lose another 3.5 k over the next year I'm almost certain. Might be worth hanging on for another year. As you said great car and great handling. Coming from 8 yrs of imprezas I was pleasantly surprised!

I'd keep it. I think the advice on no-mans land is spot on. Whilst a t5 is nice do you really need it, or is it worth the 8k mentioned above that you'd 'lost' on the car in terms of earnings?

Cars are funny things these days.

There seems to be some right knobs coming on here nowadays! This place has really changed for the old days when there was a proper community feel about the place!
