My nephews birthday this weekend and they are coming to stay.

He is 6 and likes science and building type stuff and nature. Previous presents have included bird boxes, bug kit, microscope etc. but none of it used. He is quite spoilt and pretty much has anything he wants.

So with my vast £20 budget, what things would you get for a 6 year old who already has everything?

Go into a toyshop, and you will see several games with poo / wee / bogeys on the front. One of them would do it.

Lego is a good shout, it is dangerous looking though...so many bits I would quite like.

As the owner of a 6yr old boy into bugs and building I’d say he was too young for the other gifts and don’t worry, 90% of their stuff is ignored.

ours spends most of his time inventing games with his sister that involve huge fleece blankets we bought them and the colossal piles of toys get ignored. On that basis, a garden ‘camping’ kit. Big blanket, hot chocolate, marshmallows, that sort of thing and spent an evening out watching the stars.

Building stuff = Lego for the win and get something marked up as a bit too old for him. It will hold attention longer IME.

A huge cardboard box, some rope, paint, sketch pads, about two hours of your time and lots of imagination...

ohh, and with that imagination, don’t be limited to my prop suggestions.

Although Lego is obvious you won't get much for £20, could try Lepin stuff I guess. I'd probably get a Nerf gun or water pistol...

Coloring book and jigsaw puzzle with dinosaurs, rockets, superheros, or whatever stuff he's into. Probably about a 300 piece jigsaw would keep him occupied without driving him to suicide.

Anything with a superhero/dinosaur on the front.

Or a Nerf gun

Two Nerf guns.

One Nerf gun is of no use to anyone. It's like giving a kid a single walkie talkie.

Nerf or nothing. Oh and a couple of pairs of cheapo safety glasses. Christmas day when young son blasts slightly older sister in the eye wasn't a great start to the day 🙄

One of those plaster of paris blocks that contain a fossil/mineral/rock, comes with a hammer and wooden chisel, with the idea that the little dear excavated his own relic? They come in various sizes, the most basic are about a fiver and contain a plastic dinosaur skeleton, right up to bigger blocks that contain a range of genuine fossils, minerals etc. Even the big blocks are only about £25

Ours our 7 and 5:

Den building kits from the forestry commission (i think) - rope, tarpaulin, mug etc - great for messing about in the woods.

Lego Ninjago

Nerf Gun (s) - although you'll be going to Argos for more ammo as the darts seem to disappear into hedges/gardens etc

If you're thinking games, our two also love Uno Extreme, Doble and Bendominoes and a pig thing which is essentially pass the parcel with farting.

edit - ooh stomp rocket! that went down well too. Also, water balloons.
