i believe it is relatively easy to get a visa in India to travel to the UK for up to six months. But does anyone know how someone marrying a uk national can move to the UK?

Expect whatever you read today to move by tomorrow and again the next day. the UK wants to be hostile to immigration.

https://www.gov.uk/marriage-visa

https://www.gov.uk/uk-family-visa

https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/immigration/visas-family-and-friends/getting-a-visa-for-your-spouse-or-partner-to-live-in-the-uk/

But on the plus side governments do tend to publish their policy

Surely all you have to do is turn up at the border and you are given a big house and put on benefits?

My in laws told me and they read it in the express.

Minimum income threshold (£18,600) was less that I thought it would be….

And totally pointless. It was put in place by Theresa May, roughly in her words to stop applicants being a drain on the public purse. Despite the fact that this visa has always said "no recourse to public funds" on it. What it's done is split families up (usually where a British woman is pregnant and the husband is moving to the UK, but also when people are self employed) for no good reason.

Anyway, when's the wedding happening and could you consider a "fiance visa" instead? I am not sure it's possible to switch from a holiday visa to a marriage visa so you may have to apply for the marriage visa from outside the UK. This can take a long time, especially if the couple haven't lived together much.

I can't help much, we did it in the UK with my US wife switching from a student to marriage visa. Theresa May updated the rules 3 months before our wedding and all of a sudden we didn't meet the criteria, and the last 5 years have been burdened with the stress of the thing. Moving to the UK to do it is different, and I suspect even more stressful.

I was getting confused with Tier 2 visa requirement which is a lot more (£55k).

https://www.peoplemanagement.co.uk/news/articles/new-threshold-non-eu-visas

Does seem off that the work visa salary is nearly 3x the residency salary requirement...

Work salary is for a new skilled immigrant, residency is just to be able to bring your spouse/child though, which many would think should be an automatic right for a legal resident anyway (subject to checking it's a genuine relationship).

This is is the challenge. The length of relationship, letters to each other, photos, evidence of no coercion or fraud if it is arranged etc.

It isn't hard to prove, texts, WhatsApp convos, photos, addresses all count towards proving it. I personally don't think the risk in some religious cousin marrying circles of forced marriages should stop the rest of us from marrying who we want. Whilst the minimum salary requirements essentially creates a two tier citizenship/right to private life based on income, which is bollocks.

They don't, you can marry who you like.

They do however want proof it's not just a scam to live in the UK, which seems to be a popular place amongst migrants...

They do. The minimum earning requirements were introduced for a reason, they disproportionately effect certain ethnic minorities in the south that have an affinity for cousin marrying and arranged marriages. And Northerners being hit by it is collateral damage, besides who the **** cares about them!

How about knowing what the **** you are talking about before posting.

It only takes one daily mail “investigative article” to ruin it for everyone. The mob do not quantify likelihood or severity before stamping and screaming.

there will always be visa fraud. The issue is in the UK we do not like alternative marriage ideals. If the process is not two people from the same social standing and geographical region (or they met at uni) who get together and then marry it is seen as a bit odd. There has been distrust of people marrying outside of the first world unless it happened abroad.

think about it in terms of crass generalisation. Move to Brazil for five years and come back with a wife -no one bats an eye. Meet girl on internet from Brazil and everyone assumes it is a visa marriage...

The government will not learn about your unique situation so you will jump through hoops. Also they ave shown over the years unless you are rich no government cares...

You can probably find the same article but with different people every year going back for decades... probably quite a few linked to on this site.

the home office dislike for foreign people has been pretty consistent for a long time and I think it is only going to get more hostile.

Soon enough there will be UKIP push and there will not be spousal visas to the Uk and everyone will be told to up sticks to their spouses country...

the rules are crap. The hoops are there all we need to do is learn how to jump
