Hey Peeps,
I'm going to build a car port down the side of our semi, next door has a double side extension so it will basically fill the gap between our wall and theres (well leaving a 6"gap or so).
Was planning on getting some nice double gates made for the drive way anyway so thought I may as well build a port to gain a fair amount of covered space for tinkering etc. Filling in the gap between the roof and the top of the gates will also make the access to rear garden a lot more secure.

Pretty much know how I'm going to do it, posts in concrete near to neighbours house, beam across length of our house with a sloping roof down towards posts leaving a 6" gap to run guttering.

A couple of queries I do have are...
1 - do I need building regs? It normally states not if open to at least two side. It will be open to rear but not sure if it would be classed as open to neighbours side as they'll be a gap. Not a fixed wall but obviously the neighbours wall might be classed as a side???

2 - we have an outlet for central heating. I'm guessing this is like an exaust so is it safe / allowed to be left as is will it need to be routed somewhere?

I'm fairly certain you don't need to get building control approval, but a quick call won't hurt. They're usually quite helpful. Probably worth asking of its OK with planning too , if its fronting the highway, some local authorities can get a bit high and mighty.

The boiler flue should be fine, again worth checking with a local gas safe guy. Worst case scenario is you would have to get a plume management extension

Don't forget your gutters

Yeh the building rugs was the unsure part so I'll lrob give them a buzz.
It's set back slightly from the front corner so planning shouldn't be counted.

Better way is some meta post sockets bolted to the flor no digging and can be easily removed, 4 x 4 inch posts, then a cross piece, batton on wall then sheeting sloping towards the neighbours or better still sloping back towards the garden, so you can put a drain pipe and guttering get a barrel for rainwater harvesting etc.

as for the gas flue, it need to vent to fressh air, and is hot and moist, so condensation under the roof, just get a gas safe guy to add a chimney , or alter the flue.

Remneber to make gates open outwards with cabin hooks to hold them open, and bolts on the inside.

Don't fill that gap too much - wind needs to be able to get through and out. If you block one end up your carport roofing sheets will end up in a neighbour's conservatory.
