I recently bought a new Aee SD20 Video Cam from a user on this forum and i used it a few times and it worked/recorded to mini sd card and i was able to play the vids on my Mac using quicktime without a problem but for the last few times i have used it there seems to be a problem with the files as i get an error message when trying to play back on the camera which says "invalid file" and when i try and plug the camera in to my macbook and import a vid i get the following message

"Unreadable files : 1
The following File could not be uploaded (the import failed)
/private/var/folders/1d/1dVR90CJGgeURZxvj3lpek+++TI/-Tmp-/iPhoto/FILE0001.MOV"

What am i doing wrong?, it did work the first time i used it but now i always get "invalid file" whilst trying to use the viewing screen on the camera and the above message whenever i try and import a vid?.

I have the resolution set to 1080p, tv standard set to pal (don't have a tv so this is immaterial), frequency set to 60hz (i haven't altered this?), what am i doing wrong?, the mini sd card is formatted in the camera so as far as i can make out i have done everything right but it's not working or at least it is working but i can't view any vids at all.

Any ideas?

Try copying the file to a drive on your Mac and see if it will read it?

Could be some form of file corruption - perhaps the camera isn't closing the file correctly. Are you stopping the filming before switching the camera off?

Hard reset and format the card outside of the camera for a start. See what happens then.

I've tried to copy the file to my mac and import into quicktime to play but i get the same unreadable file message so i tried converting the file but that made no difference, i've not switched it off prematurely regarding what you mentioned druidh. It's visibly a .mov file when i use the "get info" file function and it is the corresponding GB or MB size of file for the amount of time i've recorded so it should play fine. According to the instructions it advised against formating the card outside the camera but i'll try that now....bloody annoying as i recorded on my New Years Day ride at kirroughtree and a massive 12point Stag ran out in front of me on the descent of hyssing sid and stood blocking the trail as i locked brakes and came to a halt not more than 20ft away from it, it stood for a good 5 seconds just staring at me before it sauntered off calm as you like and i was really excited to view the footage but i couldn't get it to import or play in any way at all and i've been out again this afternoon wi the camera, i let it run continuosly for 45 mins then stopped it but i have the same file invalid error.----Arghhhhh, bike runs are meant to be calming 👿

The camera should just see a card formatted outside as a new card. Fairly sure the cards won't be unique. Try a shorter film. Some camera will limit clip length.

As a (probable) aside - where is that weird folder name coming from?

That weird folder name is what the camera throws out at the mac when i try and import it, I've just formatted the card inside the camera and i can take still pics ok and copy them to the mac and i've just managed to take a vid and view it on the LCD screen and copy it to the mac so i tried to take another vid and that worked ok so i took a few pics - yep...no problem and i took one more vid - invalid file, took another vid - invalid file, so i think the firmware or the camera is borked somehow, i'll get in touch wi the guy i bought it from last month and see if he's still got the original receipt, original fs thread here , hopefully he's still got the receipt.

I have just tried a different sd card on advice from the person i bought it from and Bingo!, problem sorted. It appears the new 32gb micro sd sandisk card i got for the camera is dodgy, sometimes it writes correctly, other times it spews out a lot of nonesense so i've tried to repair it using disc utility on the mac but that's made no difference so i'll buy another one.

Should i chance another sandisk card or just buy a generic Micro sd card and hope for the best?.
