Good friend of mine has been suffering from crippling fatigue for months, she’s convinced it’s long covid as she got progressively more tired after initially recovering quite quickly from vivid in may

Doc has done every test under sun, the only abnormality so far is they found helicobacter bug which she’s now on antibiotics for

A quick google suggests this bug could be the cause of fatigue, however I’d have thought if that were the case there would be loads of other stomach issue, indigestion etc

Any exp of this at all?

Ta

The vast majority of H pylori infections produce no symptoms at all, and there's a possibility that it isn't the reason for the fatigue either.

But now they've found it, eradication via antibiotics is a sensible step, as it increases the chance of later developing ulcers etc.

H pylori can cause gastritis which can affect the performance of your stomach. That will reduce the efficacy of your digestive system which can lead to nutrients from food not being absorbed correctly e.g. iron.  This is what happened to me.

The first line of attack is antibiotics but get re-tested as it need a second poo test to determine if the tablets worked. I had to go the 2nd line antibiotics to get rid of it.

Thyroid is another thing to consider if constantly tired etc.

I had an developing ulcer iron deficiency and fatigue so was given both antibiotics together. It cleared the helicobacter and the ulcer, and the fatigue eased with it. My iron levels were also significantly improved.
The doc advised me to eat lactic pickles (sauerkraut, kimche etc.) as it may discourage the Helicobacter from returning. Ive not been very strict about that....but haven't noticed any more symptoms for 2 years now.
