I love the idea of Rapanui and the hoodies and waffles are great but their shirts have a weird fit. Clingy, but in random places, appear to be based on a gibbon for fit and very thin. I have two of them and they don't see much wear. One of them has buttons that are held on by hope. I've lost three of them and I've only worn it twice.
I've had common people ones they are nice .
The fat moose one I have is lined and padded it's taken a beating camping and around the garden 3years and going strong.

Just had a couple delivered from Amazon Basics. The slim fit ones are not great even for my skinny frame, but the normal fits ones are pretty good.
Not washed yet, but they feel nice enough on.
Timberland heavy cotton flannel shirts are also good. I bought two recently from TK Maxx £40 each.
Well thanks to this thread my Varusteleka shirt has just arrived from Finland. First impressions, very nice, good quality and comfortable fabric. Feels noticeably heavier than the Portuguese flannels one I have.
Easy to order, good online sizing guide and prompt delivery, not cheap though, but may well buy another.
I'd x2 the Hoggs stuff, you'll find it in country stores or farm suppliers and won't pay through the nose. I have a waxed cap of theirs for walking the dog and it holds up well.
See also TK Maxx specials, I got one recently but as usual it's just down to luck.
For most of the rest you can be damn sure the materials and labour cost the exact same as Hoggs, I'm not paying Hebtroco* prices for offshored production costs.

price seems comparable to other wool shirts. Whats the feel of it like? it says 'recycled wool' - is it old fashioned scratchy or lovely soft next to skin merino style?
(went down a rabbit hole on their site - some really nice looking military surplus stuff on there and their own brand stuff coats look good too. anyone who does a long fit is a winner for me)
It feels soft enough, not scratchy but I’ve not had a decent wear of it yet.

OP update. I've ordered a Fjallraven Skog - it's yet to arrive. Not the thickest in their catalogue, maybe more like an everyday shirt but I like the look of it, time will tell. In the interim Mrs Bloke, god bless her, bought me one in a charity shop which is 86% wool and lined which is warm, fits me really well and is nearer to my OP brief. The label says "Outdoor Exchange", never heard of them but I'm pleased with it. I've also dug a forgotten Fat Face one out from the back of the wardrobe which is actually pretty good. So I'm sorted for the time being, but still have my covetous eye on one of those Varustelekas. Maybe Santa will oblige? I have been a very good boy!
Was in my local TKMaxx the other day. Given the season there's a load of flannal shirts appeared, some the usual cheap stuff, but there was also Barbour, Brixton, Folk items. Worth researching how TK Maxx code their tags to see what is genuine high cost old season / overstock stuff and what is made for TK Maxx / House Brand. I've bough a load of Folk stuff over the last 12 months as its all old stock generally sold at 25% of RRP and is nice stuff.
ooh, haven't looked at TK MAxx online in years, but interesting to see that you can now search for the nice brands. Last time i looked (probably about 2018) the posh brands were hidden from search and you had to hunt through the website like you did the shop. So I never bothered. The Folk stuff really is quite cheap...

Theres some nice stuff - seems to be some odd size labelling though - not in the Endura jazz manufacturing sense - just seeming the wrong size label in the garment. So I wonder if there was some manufacturer fubar that lead to a lot of their stuff being channelled out through TK Maxx.
The labels aren't really an issue once you've bought it but it seems to mean in practice the size you're looking for may well be mislabelled sitting on another rail

All the Folk stuff I've bought has been consistent (though it was in numerical 1-5 sizing, seems to have moved to more conventional S/M/L sizing this season). I've bought all my shirts (7 in total) in size 3 / M, I usually sit in M/L (or a mid point no-mans land) with most brands. It must be so cheap as Folk is more of an 'if you know you know' brand, rather than one all the usual shoppers are familiar with. (I've also picked up Edwin, Universal Works and Norse Projects stuff there, sometimes even in the clearance section).
Having used their fitting guide it suggested a long version rather than standard and it’s a pretty good fit.
