Do you need to drive?
We usually take the national express coach. Costs less than the fuel, takes about the same time and way cheaper than parking.

If you need to stay at a hotel the night before some of them give you free airport parking, I think.

Otherwise, if you've got aa membership you can get a discount through the aa site.

used these last yr and got stuck in ash cloud for 3weeks and kept to pro rata original booked price, staff helpful (kids lots of bags) and buses seemed very prompt

Park on a zone 4 suburban street near the tube, for free. Then the only cost is the tube ticket.

I used purple parking once no probs, that was for 4 weeks(£90ish 2 years ago)! 3 adults 2 kids loads of luggage....norm stay in NW london and book a cab to the airport with the kids if i cant get a lift.
