Want some ideas for pictures to put up on the walls, to replace the *ahem* not so politically correct posters that my housemate favours*
*it's like living in an A&A thread round here. LOL
There have been several other A&A threads...Art and Appreciation! 🙂
Nighthawks - Hopper.
brakes, great minds! I love Lichtenstein. Hopeless is my favourite
Buy some ready framed ones from IKEA.

Do you want posters or affordable original pieces?
Ohhh Kaaaayyy, some weird pictures here. That Giger one looks like the alien films!!
Thanks noteeth, I'll do more searching of his work, I like the one you posted
Charlie, I just want to see works that you think are interesting or exciting or what you think would look good on a wall
How about some Araki?
this guy does some good affordable stuff, all a bit freaky, but good for your wall

4 euros to Amnesty. You can look at eboys stuff for ages and not get bored.
Dunno if movie art floats your boat. If it does, and you prefer them with a twist, have a look at these Polish interpretations of classic movies:

Excellent excellent excellent. I approve immensely.
Emsz; please make this a regular thread. Not on a Tuesday though cos it'll clash with my Architectural Appreciation thread, but how about a Thursday? Maybe. Or a Friday? Replace the tired boring thread that ran out of steam some time ago. Yes; the new Friday A+A! 🙂
'Emsz' Friday Art Appreciation Thread'- each week could have different themes like the architecture one.
A picture I saw in the National Gallery in Oslo, by an artist called Erik Werenskiold.
The pic doesn't do it justice. I found it really moving, dunno why at all. I think it's cos it's just so human and real, just doesn't seem contrived in any way. It's just like a candid photograph, but it's a painting. Amazing. I like it anyway.
Elfin, I see what what you mean about being photographic! I thought it was at first. Like Suerat?
Love those Polish film posters. Kevevs, a bit busy for my taste. 😕
good call flying ox. Especially

Not really art as such, is it?
That artrepublic link is sweet, Kevevs!
¡Muchos graçias!
saw this weird film last night called The Human Caterpillar that really reminded me of Heironymous Bosch.
The Werenskoild Painting looks very Pre-Raphaelite (millais)
that's in a little gallery in my home village, that painting
As is The Execution of Lady Jane Grey, another one that stopped me in my tracks. Love the Bosch btw.
Saw that when it was vandalised at the Saatchi exhib near the london eye......along with Hanson and Muek's amazing sculptures (and the wonderful Hirst "the physical impossibility etc etc ")
elf- that's such an attention seeking post, nothing to do with the op, not helpful at all, just attracting attention to yourself! Thought you were a hater of Sensation, young british artists, etc! This is about nice background interior decoration prints 😉
If it's Goya you want, Elfin...

[/img]
Some of his etchings are a littledisturbing... 😈
😯
less violence and fannies, please!!
Right, going to work, I want to see pictures, ok? landscapes, portraits, interesting, exciting. Less children being eaten!
Emsz - I've got a lot of original artwork up in the house rather than prints. It doesn't necessarily have to be expensive.
Find out the nearest University that runs decent courses in Fine Art, Photography and Illustration then go to their end of year shows. You'll get an amazing variety of styles on display. Some preposterous and silly, some absolutely wonderful. If you see something you like then make them an offer. I've picked up a few things like this.
Do you want art? Or interior decoration?
You could try your local Barnardos or Help The Aged, etc. My dad's house is decorated almost exclusively in artwork and prints from Barnardos house clearances, and there are some real gems. I particularly like his lithograph of The Golden Fleece. He's got original silhouettes of unnamed 19th century dignitaries, huge Matisse prints, an amazing native American painted scarf thing, very detailed portrait studies in pencil, and a VERY detailed homage to The Arnolfini Marriage. I think the most expensive was the scarf thing, at about £15.
Ahem...I've got a solo show starting 28th April if anyone is near Southern Spain 😀
I see what what you mean about being photographic! I thought it was at first. Like Suerat?
Suerat didn't paint photo-realistically - he was an impressionist.

I have always liked (amongst lots of the already posted)

Although I am sure you really would need to have an original to truly appreciate it.
I was in Amsterdam Art Gallery (or was it the Louvre, I forget now) and really liked some of the miniatures - but that was more for the technical execution than artistic merit.
Binners -I like your style 🙂
Damo - who did the first one you posted? I really like that.
Binners - did you know you can get that 'Cycle Brillant' on a jersey? retroimageapparel.com
Suerat didn't paint photo-realistically - he was an impressionist
Sorry to be pedantic - but I think he was a Post Impressionist
Damo - who did the first one you posted? I really like that.
Peter Doig. His work is amazing. Set a few records for sale prices for living artist - so get saving!
Sorry to be pedantic - but I think he was a Post Impressionist
I do stand corrected. I like your pedantry.
He impersonated postmen?
Ahem...I've got a solo show starting 28th April if anyone is near Southern Spain
When's it visiting Civilisation I mean London? 🙂
