With the weather the way it is right now, and some stoves weighing ariubd 1.2kg with chimney, it feels very tempting right now!

Did see a large Tipi type tent at the Cuillins campsite that had a stove/chimney. Certainly elicited a bit of jealousy as we settled into our ice cold sleeping bags 😆

Something like this suit you ? Under £200 on Amazon

Some time ago one or our cohort spent a full winter hot tenting. They had a smashing blog about it.

Can't remember who it was though.

Is it a bit like hot bedding? If so, I might have done some hot bedding back in the early 90's. 2 horny couples, 1 small tent big enough for 2 - form an orderly queue.

Oh so it's just putting a wood burner in a tent and making a hole in it for the chimney. Cool.

I guess theres a premium for tents with holes in already?

Difficult to get into a tent that doesn't have at least one hole in it

@shermer75 have you seen this article on bikepacking.com?

I'm in Norway and very tempted to try this at some point for fatbiking and skiing in the winter!

This remarkable little stove claims to be only 680 grams with a 6 foot chimney

https://seekoutside.com/cub-u-turn-ultralight-tent-stove-stovepipe/

That's not far off the weight of a butane gas set up, if you include the fuel!

I've been after one for a while but I will hang on for the big sale reductions everyone keeps talking about.

Apparently we are in for a winter of discount tents

TBH when I go camping in Winter it's because I like the feeling of fresh, cold air. That's why I usually opt for a bivvy bag.

My mate has a bell tent of some sort with a hole in it and a stove. We’ve sat round in relative warmth with snow on the ground outside quite happily. Beer jackets help.
It’s fun but quite expensive and faffy.

mm

Mmm, that looks like a great seal. Remind me again why we don't use BBQ's and such in tents? Besides the flammability issues.

Accident waiting to happen, you just know someone that doesn't know what they're doing will burn or asphyxiate themselves.

Reminds me of when me and the gf borrowed a tent back in the 80s. Lit a bbq under the flap cos it was raining. White tent ended up rather black. I think I managed to scrub most of it off. Didn't think to cut a hole in it 😀

Obviously we all have different ideas of fun, but I can see the "expensive and faffy" bit being half the appeal to some.

Another prime example of middle class, middle-aged bollocks IMO.

Is it even a real fire dude?

Probably been carefully setup and dismantled before the small lake / indoor pool/ tepid bath appears in the middle of the tent.

Is hot tenting = dutch oven = farting in a mountain tent?

I have a luxe outdoors tipi tent with winnerwell titanium stove. Sleeps three with the stove. Fantastic piece of kit esp. for "basecamp & day trips" type of adventures in autumn and winter. Stove is great for cooking, dries clothes and allows you to drink beer the whole night in -10c while being cozy warm. Setup is so easy that I don't hesitate doing simple overnighters with it either. Plus the whole setup was cheaper than a Hilleberg. If you just like to escape to the nature to relax with your mates when it's cold and rainy but survivalist stuff isn't really your thing you can't beat a setup like this.

Yeah, I also remember thinking at the time something about it didn’t look right - it was, of course, faked.

Not sure I could be bothered myself, but the photos above of the Lux tent and stove do look immense fun.
