Our touch sensitive lamp is now refusing to get brighter in stages when you touch the base. It now stays bright all the time and won't turn off. Can you fix the touch sensitive thingumy in it, or is it destined for the bin?

I've fixed a couple of these, although ours had the opposite problem; wouldn't turn on. The initiating fault was a blown bulb, causing a current spike as it failed and frying the thyristor - I'd take a guess that it's the thyristor that's causing the trouble. I replaced it with one with a higher current rating. Cheap to buy the replacement, easy soldering job, although sometimes take some ingenuity to get the lamp apart. Google finds a few threads on how to.
