Oh man.
Was working in Edinburgh today, finished a bit earlier than expected and it looked nice as I headed back towards Glasgow, so thought I'd get off the train at Falkirk and ride back from there.
My work uses those flexipass things, valid for the journey between Queen St and Edinburgh at peak times and that's what I had with me. Used them for years.
Got off the train at Falkirk for the ticket barrier collector to tell me that my ticket wasn't valid for getting off there (its the rules, its printed on the back etc).
Eh??
But I'm.... getting off the train.
She told me I'd either need to buy a single ticket from Edinburgh to Falkirk, or get on the next train and take it all the way to Glasgow.
I stood trying to get my head round this when the next train arrived. Got on it, then got off at Croy (the next stop) and rode from there.
What on earth is that about?
I feel like I should write a letter to query this policy, but I can't find the words to express the sheer wrong-headedness of it.
Amazing.
Rules is rules.
Never question anyone in a uniform. 😉
That's not what their policy is, you can break a journey anywhere you want to. They told me that.
YOu cannot break an outward journey but you can break the return journey
The flexipass things are singles, not returns.
It does say on the back, only valid for travel between the two points (except if you alight at Motherwell, for some reason) and she was very adamant that this was the case.
But come on. I wanted to get off! Giving up a seat on a busy service!
Mental.
Come on! At least the train was running, that's a first for scotrail!
jobsworth should be dragged out by hair, shot ****ed and eaten. King useless muppets.
i keep reading scrotal
seriously dumb policy, made me chuckle though 😀
She was a woman so cant help herself.
It says you can't break your journey, usually (in my mind) breaking means getting off part way then re-joining (effectively making 1 journey into 2). It does seem rather odd that they wouldnt let you terminate early, but at the same time they have no idea you're not doing the first option. Ultimately they couldn't really stop you could they, you've paid for the journey but chosen not to use all of it, I wonder what they'd have done if you just walked off. I have walked through ticket barriers at Lime Street after the ticket guy did everything he could to moan about me paying for my ticket. No comeback yet (2 years!).
