MegaSack DRAW - 6pm Christmas Eve - LIVE on our YouTube Channel
In the car on the way to Halfrauds I’ve just passed an elder gentleman on what looked to be a gravel bike from its tyres, with rear panniers and bar bag full of shopping, pedalling up a 12% hill wearing those Shimano SPD sandal things without socks (was behind him for a while to observe these horrors), steady cadence of about 40, pretty sure he was still in the big ring. Hardcore but not gnarr
HArdcore maybe, he was training for low cadence for some reason, or maybe his derailiure was broken.
More likely, doesn't know how to use gears, the gears should work for you to maintain a higher cadence.
So many people think they should be in higher gears to 'go faster' which is counter productive.
Probably on a fixie
Higher cadence was popularised by road riders during the EPO era as it’s more effective when you’re doping.
Lower revs are fine for normal people.

Yep but the trouble is as with all good points people take them to the extreme to justify their style. You'll hear people using that link to justify a hip rocking 40 rpm.
That is a shit study. 9 people?! Hardly conclusive. Also implied that they weren’t actually regular cyclists so doesn’t really prove anything.
I've seen a fair few freehubs knackered because high gear/low cadence out of saddle riding has made a steel cassette cut into the splines
More likely, doesn’t know how to use gears, the gears should work for you to maintain a higher cadence.
Whether its true or not an old boy likely grew up in the big gear and keep the chain ticht era if cycling.
WGAF, bloke on bike merrily going about his business. FFS
