Just got results from knee scan and my ACL is shagged with associated cartilage damage. Before they get the knives out they want me to try strengthening my hamstrings with some isolation exercises. I don't belong to a gym and have space at home for a bench (weight, not cable).

Anyone have good experiences with anything ? It needs to be big as I've got very long legs (36" trouser only just long enough).

Thanks

Physio? Resistance band/s?? Have they not discussed these with you or has your local physio dept been privatised already and you're not poorly/rich enough to be a priority case yet?

yer resistance bands or simple leg lifts will work your hams

or for harder workouts hook fit under a low bar, chair or bed etc and lower and raise

or of course deadlifts

i played footy for 10years before i found out that my acl had snapped.

was told by docs that most rugger boys don't have ACLs, instead the muscles hold your knee together and that i didnt necessarily need to have it rebuilt like gazza.

the docs, keyholed my knee and trimmed off the wavy ends of the ligament (which were getting trapped in my joint from time to time and giving me gyp) and have been hunky dory ever since..

always wear a neoprene strap for footy, for a bit of confidence/ stability though.
