Hi,

Does anyone know if Halfords will transfer items from one store to another?

I'm after an item which is showing in stock in a store which is over 100 miles away and home delivery isn't an option on the website. If they can send it from one store to another I'd happily collect it from my local store.

It's only a cheap item (£23) but it's half price at the moment and over £40 everywhere else.

Just order it click and collect? You don’t need to know where they got it from.

Yes they do, or at least they used to.

When the Lara Trott MTB1 was released they were selling faster than the suppliers could keep up as they were pretty high spec for the money.

Went to my local... They were out of stock but he checked on the system and there was one in Birmingham or somewhere that they shipped to my local branch on Yorkshire some days later.

If I recall I paid for it in full upfront.. I can't remember if that was a requirement or if I paid to make sure I'd secured it as they were really selling like hot cakes.

I would ask Halfords.

I reckon they can/could but whether or not they will is a different matter. By that I mean if there is a customer issue they need to resolve they can get the item from another store etc.

If Joe Public want the last remaining sale item for £20 then probably not worth it, getting the store to request it from the other store, getting the stockist store to find it and pack it up, stick it on the truck to the depot for the depot to sort it and stick it on the requesting stores truck, for the requesting store to receive the order then hold it while they contact you to come and get it.

This is why my work (not Halfords) can do it but don’t let us unless we have a good reason, apparently each transfer cost us about £50 in labour etc.

It was certainly possible when I was a manager for them, although that was about 15 years ago!
The dispatching store would put onto a delivery lorry, item would end up back at distro centre and then be delivered to receiving store. So it would take at least a week.
Of it was a higher value item like a bike or an expensive bit of audio kit we would sometimes use couriers but rarely tbh.
If within ‘area’ I’d usually take or pick up myself.

The website doesn't give you the option for your local store if it's not in stock.

OP, if it's small and light enough to post someone on here might do you a favor and click and collect for you, though by the time you send money for stamps and beer, probably about cost neutral.

Yes unfortunately the nearest one is over 100 miles away and it won't let me order it for delivery to my home.

Its only a wheel base for a toolbox but I noticed Screwfix have 50% off a whole set (including multiple boxes etc.) so I applied a bit of man maths, spent an additional £70 and have a new toolbox arriving on Friday!

Thanks for all the help/suggestions.

I think we can all agree that's a thoroughly sensible approach to the problem.
