New little yellow blighters at side of gantries in the new "smart" section just south of Sheffield towards M18 (on Northbound as well).

Do these things flash?

There are a couple on the "smart" section of the M4 between the M5 and M32 in Bristol. I've seen them flashing loads. Always think you've got to be a bit silly to speed through a smart section of motorway, but y'know...humans. 🙂

Ah, sorry, wasn't having a go. Generally, I see them flash when people absolutely belt it through - which is a bit risky on a smart motorway.

Always love it when people belt it between average cameras then slow down as they get to them.

Regularly go through at 75mph on the cruise control, cars going past at well over 80 aren't setting them off, I've seen them flashing on the other carriageway so they are working

I regularly see them flashing between j28-29 on the M1, one morning I saw four consecutive cars get flashed. The odd thing is though that they didn't seem to be blatantly speeding - having said that though I was going the opposite way so maybe that's why they didn't look fast.

I'm on about the little yellow cameras sited over the hard shoulder one camera covers all lanes, not the downward ones on the gantry over each lane.
Do these new ones flash?

Yes they do. Seen them going off on the m25 occasionally.

Not for me I would add before the pitchforkists start.

i believe the cameras pick up the change in speed limit on those sections of motorway where it can drop to 40 or 50 say to keep traffic moving. so potentially doing 45 in a temporary 40 section could trigger them. maybe thats what you saw?

I was flashed by this set a few weeks back on a Sunday morning but haven't had anything through as it junk there was a fault and they flashed for everyone. I think they must have lowered to a specific speed limit on the ganteries and then when it changed back to normal the cameras didn't keep up with the change.

My approach has always stick to the limit that the ganteries show (they normally give on gantry notice of a change). And if nothing is showing travel at my normal motorway speed.

Yeah, the ones on the M1 do flash. The one just before the M18 exit on the north bound side was broken for a couple of weeks after it was installed and seemed to flash everything.

They do flash, they blind me when they flash oncoming cars! Just be set to 80mph plus though

Thats possible as I couldn't see the speed limit on the gantry from the opposite side.

The Haldecs work all the time and with the variable speed limits on Smart Motorway sections.

They seem to be OK @ an indicated 80 when the are no speed restrictions in place
