Hi All,

My cat has rusted through where the exhaust pipe exits, so rather than spend £800+ on a new one I slapped on some GunGum (with the metal collar thing).

Being a GunGum virgin I've no idea how long this repair/bodge will last, so roughly what should I expect (days/weeks/months, or maybe even years)?

Many thanks

You need a vet for that, surely?

Glupton is about right, holes on those welds are sods as you can't apply any force against the can of the cat.

A local fabricator should be able to make a flanged cuff and weld it on, IF they do it right it won't kill the cat...

Not sure the local welders could help - they'll tackle most things when asked but tend to burn holes in very thin stuff. I guess brazing might be an option, but I'll see how long the GunGum lasts first.

gun gum is rubbish, as are the metal collar things. if you look for a local stainless steel exhaust specialist they will make you a section, possibly using your old cat, replace the lot in stainless i say

I'm amazed gungum is still going, it has to be one of the most useless products ever.

Stainless steel sounds perfect, but would probably cost more than the car!

I thought this thread was about a Korean Internet pop sensation

Personally I would do the job properly, but if cost really is the issue then the 'Gun gum' isn't the main problem its the movement that will make it come off, maybe look at bracing between the good bits of metal so there is no stress & get an exhaust bandage with the wire?

.... flanged cuff...

For some reason I find those the most amusing pair of words I've read for a while....
