I need a case to protect a Strat style guitar during a flight - checked as hand baggage but will go in the hold. Couldn't care less about brand, and the case will probably only be used a couple of times.
Any suggestions??

Never ever ever in the hold
Soft case and you will be able to take as hand luggage. Ask as steward/ess as you board to put it somewhere safe and they will, no problem

That was my aim, but Virgin say it will be checked as hand luggage and then taken off me at the door to be put in part of the hold used for fragile items.......
Personally I've never had that in many trips with various guitars.
I just ask nicely would you look after this for me and they are more than happy to accommodate. A soft case is the same size or smaller as a folding pram and often go in the same storage in the cabin.
More times than not they will let you put it in your overhead locker as in a soft case it will fit.
