I've got a reasonably good gaming PC with 16Gb ram and an i7 processor, but the graphics card (an Nvidia 760) is getting a little long in the tooth.

I'm currently playing Shadow of Mordor with an eye on buying the soon to be released Shadow of War.

I only have a moderate budget and I'm not a hardcore gamer (preferring to spend my limited resources on my bike) and was wondering whether the extra £100 plus for an Nvidia 1070 card would represent a big leap over a 1060 (my monitor is high def. and I don't see myself upgrading this).

The recommended spec for the new game is a 1060 and your 760 is better than the min spec so I wouldn’t go mad.

The buzzwords surrounding the 10 series seem to be VR and 4K neither of which you want so I’d say the 1060 will be more than fine (as would the 1050ti for that matter).

I've heard from a few people the 1060 is probably the best vfm gaming card out at the moment. Ofc if you can stretch to a 1070 it's going to be a bit better although your CPU may bottleneck it (depends what gen i7). I would have thought at 1920x1080 x 60fps though the 1060 would be enough.

Oh and although they market the 10 series around VR & 4k they still struggle at 4k. What they're really good for is 1080 or 1440 resolutions and over 60 fps (but you need a g-sync monitor for that). At 1440 in PUBG my 1080Ti doesn't often get past 120fps and usually hovers around 80-90, I think it would struggle in 4k

Graphics cards cost more than usual right now due to cryptocurrency mining demand and memory shortages.

The 1060 and 1070 are both great cards and a big upgrade on the 760, but they're also year-old cards and still selling at the rrp (or more).

Used this last time, had some good simple testing and ability to show what different cards would achieve so a decent bang for buck calculator

I have the 1060 and at 1920*1200 it’s more than enough for any game I’ve chucked at it. Super card...

If you're not in a rush, the 1070ti is rumored to be announced soon, might drop the prices of the 1060/1070 a little.

Does it have to be nvidia? Ive got an amd rx470 8gb that's been really good. The new rx580 is slightly cheaper than the 1060 and in many tests comes out better. Runs a bit hotter i think.

Ive heard the 3gb 1060 is a bit small for some newer games too so maybe worth going for the 6gb.

I run a rx480 8GB MSI gamming X. it ultimately depends on your budget. The NVidia tend to be a bit more than the equivalent AMD. If you do any video rendering then its worth while getting a cuda core card if your software allows.
