Has anyone got one of these they have been using for MTBking? I currently have a Sony Xperia Z which is waterproof and dustproof but i think for biking if it fell it would smash into pieces plus it is huge. I was looking at a standalone GPS device but after reading people say these things do perform quite well

Any info on how they actually are would be great

I have used Garmins, Brytons, HTC android and a new Z1 last week, all work and record pretty much the same.

I've been using an Xperia Active for about a year and I'm happy with it. I normally hang it around my neck on a lanyard under my outer layer of clothing when I'm riding. That keeps it accessible but out of the way. I use an app called GPSLogger to record rides and that setup seems pretty reliable and doesn't use very much battery. I haven't really tried it for following a route but it should work as well as any Android device for that, I would think. It is a bit smaller than a lot of smartphones which is good if you want something compact but it does mean the screen is smaller than other devices.
