I've had a Cough since last Tuesday and every day it's been getting progressively worse. It's becoming increasingly painful to my Throat and Chest every time I cough. I walked about 100 yards earlier to post some letters which resulted in coughing fits when I returned.
Question is, will I be wasting my GP's time by going to see them or is there anything they can offer me to help ease my symptoms?

Of course it's not a waste of time. You're clearly ill.
As for pharmacotherapy, that would depend on diagnosis.
