I keep forgetting I am going to be a student at Plymouth University. My college is in Dartington, but as it is fully affiliated with the Uni, I get a student card, access to the student union and all sorts.

In amongst all the bumf, there was quite a funny double-Sainsbury's card. Parents keep one card and load it up with dosh. The stude uses the second card to buy their food etc. I assume the parents can see what the studes are buying, otherwise I guess they'd just load up on cheep booze huh?

Obviously there is all the freshers week (actually three weeks) events, which I will miss as my course has been delayed a month. Obviously I wont be going to the Flares or Oceana student nights, and most other events seem to be equally tacky and booze-orientated. I have been away from any decent live music venues so maybe this will be a chance to catch up on some bands mid-week. I may venture to the student union karaoke night on Tuesdays but that could be quite grim too so who knows. May just stick to nights out in Totness instead.

All in it was funny as it just immediately took me back to 1989.

I don't have a girlfriend right now, so maybe people here could feel some sympathy with me and send me a going away uni present. You know, maybe a Santa Cruz, Orange 5 - something like that? Cheers!

I arrive 1st October and the course starts on the Monday so I am thinking I have 3rd/4th free!

I think I missed a STW magazine when I was away earlier the year with Dartmoor routes?, so very much hoping to meet some locals for a ride or two.

I have lectures in freshers week. WTF is that all about?

In a class of 95% 18-21yr old females I am however looking forward to Human Anatomy practical classes. 😉

I like the sainsbury's card idea, it would mean that I don't have to actually vist my family to get fed on a regular basis, of course giving me more time to 'study'!

Yeah - I did visit Totnes for lunch when I went there for the interview.

Am kind of hoping maybe I might meet the Mrs Ralli to be there. Got to be a good chance of that huh given the good vibes down there? 🙂

AH, I'm in love!!

It's all getting exciting then Si. I think you will have a wail of a time there (at the Karaoke, 😉 ).
I'm sure you will get stuck in and make the most of the course. keep us up to date with how you are getting on.
( I've still not been to the monastery yet but plan to soon. Can you send me a copy of your maps if you still have them?)

All the best

roper

Lol at Tails

Roper - I gave my maps away to the guys at work - sorry! However, I am sure you can get in a back way that I never explored via the road that goes to the shaman cave if you remember me explaining that road which comes off the motorway that heads north from Los Barrios to Cadiz?

I never had maps to get there - I printed off high res colour maps from Google Earth. One issue is that you have to climb over a high-ish fence to get to this bit. The fence is just to the right in this pic, and you dont go down that track, you head to the left of this photo, and slightly up, not down towards the lakes.

Dont know if you remember but I ran out of water at this point. The road to the monastery runs down and then along the top of that ridge. But I am sure there is another road heading west from the monastery, and you can also get to it via the north somehow. Hope that helps and good luck - took me 3 times just to get sight of it.
