I stopped using chrome in the end, couldn't see any other way to do it, and the IT fairies didn't seem to see the issue

Have you tried Apus browser as an alternative? I switched and its a great wee browser. Nice speed dial and it has some other useful features 😉

Oooh I got that earlier. I thought my phone had a virus. Is it this site, then, and not my phone?

I've had it loads the last couple of days, including when I opened this thread.

Same issue here but on Opera Mobile when browsing whilst not logged in

I assume it's linked to a Google Ad which has not been vetted properly. Can't do anything but close the tab. If you try to go back it reloads and opens the app store on their security product page.
Only started yesterday and not just on this site.

Will try to get a screenshot. I'm using Firefox on android with certain features enabled*

* I know this is naughty and you derive revenue from adds amd that's fine. However when you were hosting porn adds a few months back and I got to see a girls undercarriage, legs akimbo ony work computer - less fine.

Worth pointing out that of all the sites I visit, this forum seems the most vulnerable to this sorta thing.

Can't use safari today without a popup (which locks Safari) about having a virus. Amusingly enough this is a box fresh laptop purchased yesterday. Installed Chrome and that is working OK.

The site was unusable to me yesterday. That pop up appeared after a few minutes and my phone wouldn't stop vibrating. Not had it happen today.

I'm getting it almost constantly too - only when browsing here or the classifieds though; not the main bike forum strangely enough.

I've been getting this as well, on chrome on android phone.

I am a subscriber but this doesn't make any difference as I still get logged out every time so whenever I open the STW bookmark on my phone I open the site with ads and this comes up before the log-in option (eventually) appears.

Have STW techies managed to replicate the logging out problem yet?

Exactly the same here, I've got a P but I have to log in almost every time I come here. I've now saved my bookmark to the login redirect page. But I've been on the forum on my laptop, logged in, made a post, left the tab open for 15 minutes or so, then clicked on the 'Overview' link and I've been logged out again. Happens on my phone, tablet and PC.

@hebdencyclist - In case it isn't clear, this is a fake pop-up made to look like it's a virus check.

was browsing STW on Samsung S5 with Chrome - then just kept getting "you have won" pop ups saying click here, and a spin the wheel again to win with a pop up if tried to shut down - uninstalled Chrome or reverted it back to factory set up seemed to fix

Ironically I don't get these pop ups when browsing porn sites.

I guess the irony is that in a world of free web content, STW is the only site I pay to use (with my P status) but it is also the one where I have the most issues and complaints.

Hmm, just had that on Firefox\Android as I home.

Not popped up all day at work, but then we do have a rather well configured firewall blocking such traffic. I suspect it is one of the side ads that has gone rogue, occasionally at work the site only works if I'm logged in with the ads off. I'd suspect the Firewall is having a fit at the dubious ad on the times it stops working.

Phew, is thought it was just me. So is it replaced to STW or not?

Only browse via iPad from now on.

On OS X safari I've started getting redirects from the forum main page, it's not even a pop up window in the background , it's the live tab your viewing at the time.

On Android and Chrome browser, whole site disappears and is replaced with the virus message...only way to fix it is to close the browser, then reopen and clear out all browsing history and cookies...I say fix it, but it then happens again about 5 minutes later.

I assumed as my humour isn't really on a par with anyone else's on here, that STW had actually put a fix in place to prevent me posting what I considered to be hilariously witty banter.

That's a relief - thought it might be porn-related.

We got a message this morning saying that they believe this has now been fixed. Those affected, could you report back one way or the other please?

Worth noting that these are nothing to do with Google. The address is at

google-security.viruseswarning.com

which means it belongs to viruseswarning.com, not Google. If it was called security-viruseswarning.google.com, then it would be genuine Google. The domain is actually registered in Panama with an obscure owner.
