I suspect Google maps will show up many more discoveries of various natures over the years.

At least his family now have closure.

Maybe but the resolution in my area has been getting worse over the years instead of better.

As you say though, glad they have closure now.

Download Google Earth, you can change the age of the imagery, sometimes the web version defaults to older data if it's hivgher quality, but on Earth you can see all of it.

I wonder if higher quality data can be purchased as I added a narrow roof between my garage and fence, you can see part of it on Google aerial but on the formal maps my company purchases that accurately shows building shapes/footprints across the UK, it is shown perfectly, including the set back from the frontage and the same at the back! Presumably it is used to monitor planning compliance etc.

Blimey that's grim. Nice that the discoverers reported it. I might've just gone "ooh, a car in a pond" myself. Noticed the linked story from 2013 where Maps showed a murder scene. More grimness.

Another slightly interesting google maps fact. Recently went to the boarder of Netherlands/Germany and was checking out local gravel routes - using streetmap. Everything was fine on the Dutch side but stopped on the border. Turns out Germany doesn't allow streetmap at all.

Try  some of the other mapping sites - I sometimes find Bing and apple’s Maps app  have much newer or sharper imagery of an area than google

Very clever Drac

Try using Streetview anywhere other than the 4 or 5 main cities.

I would think so, as Google purchase their source data. If you look at the satellite imagery on Google maps you will see credits at the bottom (Getmapping, Infoterra, Bluesky etc. depending on location).

?
Works well in loads of places. Went to buy a bike out in the wilderness last weekend. Seller said his postcode was no good, sent me google location, I did streetview before I left so I could see the turning. Very useful.

I have it works so it's far from 'at all' did you mean it's not as well covered as other countries.

No but just like everyone else I can see certain areas, Germany's privacy laws means not all are areas are available.

Good stuff about the car anyway. Not a clue what the rest of the thread is about.

Probably due to the amount of toilets sunbathers that would get captured on camera...

A wee Friday test, use google earth or strava satellite above West Wemyss/Coaltown of Wemyss and see whats in a field in the estate of Wemyss who have distant connections to the royal family and i think may have Gosford in East Lothian. No prizes unless you want to treat me

Here's a thing. My brother just told me my postcode is incorrect on EBay. So I looked up where it is pointing.
Lordy. I must point out that this is not my house
