Hi all, can anyone recommend a cheaper alternative to a go-pro? My 9 year old really wants one and will be buying it himself, he’s seen some on Amazon which look ok but might be a buy it cheap, buy twice type job!!  He wants it to be waterproof but the main thing is the quality. Cheers in advance

I occasionally use an Akaso action camera. Around £100 Inc accessories.

It's ok. Does it produce cinematic cycling scenes worthy of posting on YouTube? Probably not.

Would it be ok sat on a tripod filming a time lapse? Probably.

Is it waterproof? Only when inside a case.

Do I spend any time editing or watching the stuff I record? No.

If I was buying an action camera again I'd probably waste £300+ on a DJI or insta360.

I probably wouldn't be bothered watching or editing the stuff I recorded tho.

Probably different for a kid with time and aspirations of creating watchable stuff?

I've been very happy with a DJI action 4. It's easy to use, reliable and provides high quality 4k footage.

Same as Gribs, I've got some great footage with my DJI Osmo Action 4, would very much recommend if you can pick one up cheap.

(Disclaimer: camera quality and riding quality have no bearing on one another. Apologies for the swearing)

DJI for the quality Akaso for the budget and don't bother with a GoPro or any of the other cheaper so called 4k cameras. I have all of them.
