I use the on in Stockton on Tees.

It's like any normal shop, you go there, decide what you want to buy, pay for it and then take it home. 😉

The bike dept is OK, like all such places the quality of the service depends on who you speak to.

You can go an have a look round without signing up for anything.

I think they're fine if they have what you want.

Don't think so...there's one near me in Brizzle and it's a decent enough shop. Sells a lot of "last year's" stuff and their in-store stocks are enormous. Excellent for all those little bits and pieces for camping too.

You have (well, you don't have to) to buy one of their discount card for four or five quid which means another piece of junk mail every few weeks but other than that, no catch.

No catch in my experience. Bought lots of stuff from there on a regular basis. I've not had to use their returns/replacement service so can't comment on that.

While you do get bargains, most of the stuff isn't actually that much cheaper than other places. I like going for a browse and you do get some good stuff.

I too use the Stockton on Tees branch (it's a small world after all...). The stuff on their newsletter is seriously cheap if you need it - I got a new pair of Merrell walking trainers last month for £30 instead of £70. They also had a basic Garmin E-Trex for £59.99, again much cheaper than elsewhere. Biking specific stuff is a bit poor range & qualitywise, but more than makes up for that with cheap Berghouse base layers etc.

No catches, just often very limited stock of the real bargain stuff.

they're just a shop who get headline grabbing deals by buying up huge swathes of last years colours etc... and job lots of samples. most of what they sell is just normal stuff reduced by 10%.

they're expanding at an alarming rate, so must be doing things right!!

also been to Stockton a few times - it seems that there are [i]some[/i] very good deals but quite a lot of there stuff is available at similar prices elsewhere. They do appear to be opening new stores at fair rate

Cans of GT85 for £2.50 and buy one get one free in last nights catalogue.

They do have some great deals on for limited periods - i got a £75 Berghaus jacket for £40 a few months back.

I also use the Stockport store!

Never had a problem, though their policy of "we will price match anything, even online" doesn't always apply. If they decide they don't want to match, they won't.

I don't have one near me, so I did use them online. Whilst their prices are rock-bottom, they don't update their website to show any kind of current stock. I 'bought' about £60 of equipement and clothing, a week later I receive an e-mail to say they'd cancelled my order as none of the items I ordered were in stock. A karibener I ordered in April (and they tell me they don't sell anymore) is still on the site to buy... But my experience is only online, not in-store.

Oh yes, I'd agree completely - they SUCK online! Remember ordering some bargain Craghoppers troosers that mysteriouly were out of stock when they bothered to email 2 weeks later. Never had that sort of problem shopping at the Stockton (Teesside rather than Manchester....) Singletrack hub.

Mail order service is very fast. The shops are good to browse in (been in Sheffield, Cardiff and Bristol ones).

So far I have got £2 off per pair of Brasher 4 season socks, £70 off a Lowe Alpine rucksack which was still being sold at full price in at least 2 other outdoor shops in the city and £100 of the current price of a RAB down sleeping bag - a down one being something I had wanted for 2 years or so but could not afford until the Go Outdoors offer. About £10 off a pair of RAB gaiters and about £50 off a memory map pack I got as a present for my flatmate.

I am not complaining.... 🙂

Oh and a set of bike lights (decent cateye ones) that were cheaper for a while than even Wiggle and Chainreaction.

Some good deals to be had if you get there quickly enough. Mostly similar prices to anywhere else but with a huge range. Great place for trying stuff on to check out sizes etc. Came within a whisker of buying a Montane Velocity DT cycling jacket - reduced to something like £50 or £60 from £130

One opened near usin a very dingy old out of town building. Looks like a crappy old family camping sub-millets grade of place; you know, Peter Storm, Regatta and whatnot.

However it actually stocks a huge range of top-notch kit and at good prices too! Have not yet had a chance to really test their customer service knowledge tho.

The staff do usually seem to be young and probably not that clued up on the technical aspects of the products like a specialist outdoor shop might be.

Having said that Stockton seems to be mainly staffed by attractive young girls so it makes the shopping experience more enjoyable.

In my head I just heard 'Go Outdoors!' sung to the tune of that stupid Go Compare ad.. oh no.. 🙁

You may find a better price elsewhere, but if you have a discount card they will beat any price by 10%.

They've just opened a big store in Swindon. Had a look round at the weekend. Some good gear and the occasional bargain but I reckon their discounted prices are probably about the same as you could get elsewhere by careful shopping. Having said that I bought a couple of good basic fleeces and got a discount card all for £14. I'll probably use them as there are no other decent outdoor shops in the area

the store in Coventry often has bike stuff obviously priced wrongly, i.e. much cheaper than it ought to be, huge store with loads of stuff

Yet another stockton-track-world reader here, its a small world, very small indeed Mr liversidge... Last time I seen you was near captain cooks monument (you were cycling, I was running)!!

Just got my catalogue in the post (from Stockton) I just like looking at tents for some reason.

Never seem to be able to find the bargain jackets in store though.

It their stated intent to become the UK's biggest outdoor retailer within 2 years. As so much outdoor kit is overpriced, I think this is a good thing.
I just hope they dont grow too fast and do a "Fopp".
