Playing a bit of catch up here on YouTube... Amyl and Wet Leg were great, they were clearly having fun out there. As were the Scissor Sisters. Pulp were awful - or at least Common People was. I haven't bothered to listen to any more of their set.

Nile ****ing Rogers?

He’s personally taken credit for the genius of Bowie and Prince.

Countless others too I’m sure.

His arrogance has few limits

Chic were fantastic. Enjoying some of the suggestions for acts to catch up on from on here.

Rod Stewart is amazing for his age, I'll give him that.

I've never paid any attention to Glastonbury before. It appears to be on and have to say, Rod needs to stop...his singing doesn't sound good and he appears to be pretty stiff and not as flexible as he was (aware he is old, so hats off still being able to get up, but he needs to stop).

Anyway, as I was never interested in it, the cameras have panned out and I just hadn't appreciated how absolutely huge it is...how big is the farmer's farm as it has a massive footprint!

Genuinely surprised and impressed (although not with Rod, but I don't tend to listen to him anyway so I'm now going to get off the couch and do something else).

Glad I caught Bob Vylans's set as it went out live if they are not going to make it available  to watch back. Also glad I got to see them live at a festival a couple of years ago. Vital, visceral stuff, more of that and less of the Sunday afternoon bland grandad stuff please (I'm looking at you Chic).

I just hadn't appreciated how absolutely huge it is

Click on this link and place a virtual Glastonbury over your nearest small town. Be both simultaneously amazed at how huge it is and equally appalled that it was home to 210,000 people over the weekend. It nicely covers my nearest town....which makes it feel massive, until I remember my local town only has a population of 10,000.

Came over the brow of a hill walking across the fields(Fence jumper) As i came over the top the site just grew and grew.

To have that kind of platform to say something profound and meaningful (and broadcastable!) then to nause it up - twonks.

If they'd done that it would have been broadcast to the several thousand that had heard of Bob Vylan and were watching the set, and the few 10's of thousands that were there. And that would be it.

Instead it's all over the newspapers and TV, a Minister's had to condemn it on breakfast telly - and in doing so has also called out the ISR Gov for their crimes directly.

If that's nausing it up a few more need to start doing the same.

The Kae Tempest set was wonderful.

It did get dusty for the last few minutes. Really powerful stuff.

To make the point, from the Guardian Glastoblog

It was striking to note that all three of the acts I saw on the Other stage today – Crookes, Turnstile and Nadine Shah – gave emphatic, positivist statements of support for Palestine.

I wonder how many front pages, breakfast news segments or ministerial comments they get?

The lineup this year has been very good. So much good stuff. Especially the smaller acts. Live music nowadays is way better than it was.

**** knows what we actually need to do to get a ticket (8 years of bad luck) but we'll be trying again in 2027

Prodigy later.

I can’t find Neil Young either, has he prohibited it? If so it’s a shame and I can’t match that with his egalitarian views. Anybody find it give us a shout, likewise the full Libertines set please.

I’ve watched Kneecap’s set twice now. This weekend has got me back in love with them again. I love that a huge amount of their rapping is _as Gaeilge_. As they said, a language that nobody knows, and that includes a large proportion of the population of the island that should be speaking it. Ffs, they got away with _Tiocfaigh Ár Lá_ in the recorded feed. 😂

And **** it, they’re young. Their audience is the future. Not a bunch of fuddies on STW. I’ll be seeing them at Green Man in August. I’ve ordered a couple of tricolour balaclavas for me and the boy. 🇮🇪 🇵🇸

According to the apologist gobshites I've heard from/seen on the news (bbc1/C4) I imagine they would have preferred it if bob vylan had cleared what they were were going to say with the Israeli propaganda division beforehand, and then sat down with a nice cup of tea and cake to discuss the speeches afterwards.

They deserve everything thrown at them, the idf that is.

I found amyl and the sniffers on the iPlayer earlier, why would they have it chipped down to 12 minutes instead of the full set?

I think Glastonbury becomes the third largest town in the WEST country for the weekend

I overlayed it and it's about 1/3 the area of Guildford and 2.5x the population.

Neil Young did have some 'is there, isn't there' embargo shite on his set, but may be available after the event, I don't know. There's a lot of filmed performances and takes time for Auntie to cut it all up and get onto the web.

If you want to see Libertines, you can gamble on it being available after, as above, or go to the Pyramid feed on iplayer and just rewind, they were on about 2ish.

I can't agree. The best way to make any significant change from the uk is for the mood of the majority of the nation to be appalled sufficiently for UK politician's policy and attitude on the world stage to harden for no reason other than chasing domestic votes. That includes the middle englander, law abiding mild mannereds of centre to DM political leanings who always but always turn up to vote. But chanting stuff the PM has no choice but the condemn is not going to win them over - the exact opposite. They stop listening to the cause and just go into disapproval mode.

But this is not the thread for it.

I loved Kneecap's intro. Reminded me very much of the old documentaries about the Pistols.

Watching Kneecap on iPlayer now. Not my usual taste but the energy and intent can't be denied. As the poster above said, the intro was genius.

I think this is the most political Glastonbury for years, bit of a change in view of the Labour government, with chants of **** Kier Starmer, compared to the cheers that Corbyn got quite a few years ago.

Partner ended up iplayering some of the acts - Lewis Capaldi and Alanis Morissette were good...Biffy Clyro came on next and that got switched off about half way through first song as they sounded awful.

I played the studio version and it sounds great, but that attempt at Glastonbury sounded flat and the singing was way off the studio version (assuming the studio version gets lots of tweaks and fancy stuff to make.it.sound great). The actual music sounded great but the singing was nothing like the studio album tunes you hear on the radio.

I'm kind of glad I have managed to completely miss Glastonbury and live music as it clearly offends my ears after hearing the studio versions of the songs...very clearly, not for me.

You need to take a decent dose of mdma, 100mg should do it and you’ll love live music - it’s the performance that counts, not being pitch perfect and in key

I think I've been to 2 live gigs and both were really disappointing, so I'm happy to admit it just isn't my thing. I've been too lazy to wrestle the remote control and even lazier in not getting up from the comfy chair I've landed in.

I'm also happy to admit that if I hear something I like the sound of, if I hear it again and it isn't the same then it niggles me...so again, pretty sure live gigs aren't for me.

Saying that, looking at the crowds and how they responded to the music, they were clearly loving it, so I'm happy to be in a field of 1 at the other end of the country for this. A good example of why it is good to have variety and different things work for different people.

Aware this is the wrong thread for my comments as it is clear many others are loving the show.

It's not all his farm - not by a long chalk! Last thing i heard they rent space off about 25 neighbouring farmers. It's a handy earner for a lot of people in the area.

Anyone who lives nearby gets a free ticket too, and IIRC the village of Pilton got a lovely new cricket pitch, on condition that it could be used as a helipad one weekend a year...

I’ve loved the Prodigy since Experience came out but … it’s not the same without Keith.

I guess it is better live in this instance. I hadn’t realised that Maxim Reality is nearly 60!

Many years ago I attended a Dire Straits gig in Edinburgh. The playing and singing was faultless. It was almost impossible to differentiate it from the studio version.

It was one of the worst concerts I ever had the displeasure sit through. They were so focussed on the sound that they missed out the whole stage presence thing. I'd have been better off sitting at home listening to them on the hifi.

I've seen footage of later gigs where they'd obviously corrected this though.

They also throw a 'Pilton Party' in late summer for helpers in the main, which generally but not exclusively means locals.
