Off to see Shack at the Ritz in Manchester tonight. One of the few bands I absolutely love who I’ve never seen live, but then the Head brothers did seem to prioritise heroin use over live performances.

Should be a belter

@garlando - if you can get to see Shack on this tour, then do it. They were absolutely superb! It was absolutely joyous! A cracking gig!

K&D Sessions attendee here too. Last night at the Royal Festival Hall. Brilliant night.

Jealous of anyone getting to see Shack, I missed the London tour dates until I was too late.

After failing to get Glastonbury tickets, I've just bought tickets to see Iron Maiden (it's on the same weekend) – it'll be about the 20th time I have seen them, I reckon (I first saw them in 1982 as a spotty 15-year-old).

wait4me - I think most of mates were in town on Friday night. Half of us at the Shack gig at the Ritz, the other half at K&D at the Albert Halls. A great night was had by all! 😃

Rival Schools last night. I didn't do my research, I kind of assumed it was going to be some sort of United By Fate album show (cos half the tours I see now are anniversary shows for 90s bands, and because they went with that cover for hte posters and ads and even the merch) but it turned out to be pretty much just a normal show, including loads of stuff off the later 2 albums that I never even heard before. So I might not have gone to that if I'd known, but as it turned out, it was fantastic and I just ordered those two albums. They're in leeds tomorrow I think, well worth seeing if you're even halfway interested.

(and then supporting Hundred Reasons at what I think is now their 7th or 8th last ever show, in London. Which I'm sure will be great but I was at their last 2 last ever shows and bought the cd and all that so I thought I'd skip this one and maybe catch the next one in 2027. But if you're going, definitely get along early and see Rival Schools)

Alabaster dePlume at Mono in Glasgow was a brilliant way to start a glorious bank holiday weekend!

Saw Alan Davies' stand up show in Buxton last night. Wasn't sure what to expect from him but very funny and slick.

Had 3 supporting acts, first 2 needed work but was impressed with Dinesh Nathan. Opening with "Any Hindus in?" at Buxton Opera House on a Bank Holiday Monday was deliberately optimistic.

Viagra Boys at Brixton was a riot last night.

Suspect I'm not going to be overly productive at work today...

Rival Consoles (definitely not Schools 🙂 )  tomorrow in that there city of London Town. Staying over, so should be a good one. Works out damn expensive (for me) for a gig though. Got 4 more London ones coming up - Factory Floor, Clipping., Actress and Tropical **** Storm. Glad they ain't Brighton though, cos the roads are a nightmare at the mo.

Some old buggers at at the end of the month and in June - Jah Wobble and then his old mate John with PiL.

Just a heads-up for anyone who wanted to see him (or knows someone who likes him) - Sam Fender is playing Thursday night of the Silverstone Grand Prix weekend.

His tour is sold out but this seems to have slipped under the radar and tickets are still available for this from £50 for the evening only, or £70 for the whole day. Won't be any track action on the Thursday but you should find plenty to fill the day.

Rival Consoles was bloody fab. Here at Outernet a great venue too. Easy to get to and lots going on around there (well, it is London, you cry!)

Saw Lou Sanders do comedy in Portsmouth Saturday. Bit disappointing tbh. Thought she'd be more .. erm .. outrageous maybe. Just mildy amusing for most of the gig. And a bloody short set with no support. Hmm.

Definitely a concert rather than a gig, went to something ace last Thursday - the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland often have brilliant classical stuff on for way cheaper than you'd pay elsewhere and last week had the arranger Colin Currie lead an ensemble of students playing a couple of Steve Reich pieces. Concluded with an amazing Music For A Large Ensemble, was so good. Eleven pounds!

I wonder how many festivals are struggling to shift tickets this summer?

I've just been sent the following offer by Ticketmaster for TRNSMT - normal Fri-Sun is £249.50 - offers is £154.90. Quite the reduction!...  😬

I don't think it is just festivals – a few artists are struggling to sell out (for example, my Facebook page, along with all the ticket sites I have accounts with, are all bombarding me with Kaiser Chiefs alerts and the gig is a week on Saturday). The tickets aren't even that expensive (£66 plus fees), and they have Razorlight, The Cribs, The Coral and We Are Scientists (and a couple more I have never heard of) on the support bill. If they end up discounting the tickets, I may end up going, but the last time I saw them (at Elland Road some 17 years ago), they were bloody awful.

Guess that lot aren't quite old enough to grab the nostalgia market yet. Give em 10-15 years and people will forget how crap they were and be queueing up for the big singalong.

That is possibly the case. Then I remembered that Guns n Roses have loads of tickets left still, and you'd think they would be a prime nostalgia band. (But yeah, I know, Axl Rose and all that).

Mogwai last saturday was pretty damn good. I think possibly I've seen Mogwai too often recently to be as excited as usual about it, but it was a phenomenal setlist, enough variation to be interesting but still crowdpleasing and managed to avoid any real flat ones. And any night we get Helicon and Fear Satan, I'm happy. And Lion Rumpus keeps getting better. Always a good sign when it ends and I have no idea how long we've been there.

It's because John Swinney told everyone not to go see Kneecap

We're off to one day of transmt, basically just treating it as a biffy headliner but it's got the classic feel of "2 day festival stretched across 3 days" (I mean, I'm old, I don't know who most of the bands are but there's a really obvious falloff after the top of the bill). But it also doesn't really have all the other stuff that should come with a 3 day festival to make it an event.

Looks like Wannasee Ltd are in liquidation - bad news if you had tickets for any of their little festivals including Northern Kin - all Stone Valleys - monument- kubix and lindisfarne, they've all suspended ticket sales today.  I had tickets for Lindisfarne in Aug, would've been our third time there.  I'm thinking the ticket sales didn't quite get to the level needed for them.  Luckily I've still got Kendal Calling to look forward which sold out months ago as usual.

Saw Pixies at Brixton Academy last weekend...the band were great,  the crowd were quieter than last time I saw them there 20 years ago, tiny mosh pit at the front. How can nearly 5000 people stand still to Planet of Sound, that takes a lot of self control 🤣 🤣

Enjoyed Big Special as support, been wanting to see them for a while. No Trees , but lots of fun.

Basht tomorrow, and Wunderhorse next week then a break in gigs.

I was at Brixton on the Friday, Big Special were good, made a lot of noise for just two blokes, reminded me of Soft Play. Pixies were ace as usual, woke up the next day a bit croaky, so i definately wasn't standing still. Bit old for the mosh pit, although was tempted to venture down there.

Bass legend Jah Wobble last night… er, we left early. Tiny Joiners venue and not sold out, so plenty of standing room, which was nice. Jah was the bass legend I expected, but the guitarist was horrific - screeching sub-hendrix look-how-fast-my-fingers-are guitar ****ery at its worst. Widdly screech widdling over some of the finest bass riffs known to man. If it hadn’t been my bass hero up there I would’ve left a lot earlier, but once the end of song jam started for about the 10th time my ears could stand it no longer.

I did get gooosebumps when the bass riff to Visions of You kicked off, so it wasn’t all bad 😁

So Teenage Fanclub anyone? What are they like nowadays?? Thinking of going to see them in the summer and taking an 11yr old fan along. Assuming it's all old/middle aged men, how rowdy would it get?

Been to see Paul Heaton at Bramall Lane in Sheffield tonight. Great atmosphere and finished on Caravan of Love which my (now) wife walked down the aisle to, can’t get better than that.

Might not be typical because it was a festival in London but I last saw them maybe 4 years ago, it was goodnatured and sometimes bouncy but not rowdy at all. Though, having said that, Aidan did start the set by coming out and saying "We saw youse throwing pints at the last band, just so we're clear, any of youse do that tae us and I'll kick yer ****s in" so maybe it could have got quite rowdy quite fast. Set was really good.

Wow, best gig for a while tonight - Moin in a small basement in Glasgow, rammed and hot. They were immense, finally seen Valentina Magaletti in action, well just about in amongst the gallons of dry ice!

Apparently we have Metallica tickets, a family outing it seems.

Though I do like Metallica, they provided the soundtrack to my teens and beyond, I'm a bit meh about it. I'm much more excited to see Gojira.

I'd more than happily go see megadeth however..not sure when that changed, and they are playing the Ovo later this year, but it means I'd have to sit through an entire set by Disturbed and I'd rather remove my eyes with a spoon.

I was supposed to go see Michael Monroe last week, but my wife and I were both unwell so had to dingy it. Missed a few recently though made it to the damned and to the skids/theatre of destiny 😉 which were decent.

Next gig is Gene Loves Jezebel, in June, then WASP at the end of July, then the sisters of mercy in Aug, then The Almighty sometime after..it gets a bit blurry.

Bearded Theory festival at the weekend. We have been the last few years. Always an excellent vibe. Key highlights were English Teacher & Public Service Broadcasting & Ezra Furman but i also finally got to see Iggy Pop who was superb (78yo but still very energetic and shirtless)

A mate has a spare (free) ticket for the weekend, so I'm off to see <Melyvn Bragg voice> Bmmorrissey </MB voice>

It's an interesting one - I wouldn't pay money to see him, he's a fairly objectionable bloke these days it seems, but still put some solid tunes even post Smiths. Biggish venue, presumably full of 50 year old blokes; will be interesting to see what it's like

He's playing Dublin in a couple of weeks, Kilmainhem Hospital. I'm hopeful of going, think it'd be a great show, but my gig-going mate has his wedding anniversary the same day 😔

As a middle aged often solo gig goer, am I being tarred with this brush?

I hope not, I can barely work my camera and most definitely don't go to gigs to take photos of lady's legs.

My only contention is why the article writer's male friend at the WetLeg gig didn't feel inclined to call out the perv.

The Manics have a lovely song on their new album about him - Dear Stephen.

You're, you're still my bad habit
My, a dark little secret
My illicit unseen drug
My secret hidden love

[Chorus]
Dear Stephen, please come back to us
I believe in repentance and forgiveness
It's so easy to hate, it takes guts to be kind
To paraphrase one of your heartbreak lines

[Verse 2]
I'm still ill, I'm cursed to stay
Under your spell for all my days

I'm still a prisoner to you and Larkin
Even as your history darkens

Actress and Suzanne Ciani at the Barbican last night. Electronic strangeness, but very absorbing. Close your eyes and let the sounds induced images into your brain. Loved it far more than I expected to!

Factory Floor next week.

Got tickets to YHWH Nailgun for August. Brighton Thurs and Southampton Fri. My ears are not gonna thank me!

Saw Leftfield last night at Brixton with my 19 and 21 year old kids. Great night and my first time at Brixton, great venue. It made me smile looking around at the audience, we all looked the same - jeans, t shirts, trainers, grey, balding and wearing glasses!  My kids thought they were brilliant

Just spotted the Gong post from @gallowayboy which reminded me I saw them back in the 70s playing on the back of a flatbed trailer in the car park behind the Virgin Records shop on The Moor in Sheffield. Great shop. Big Orange PA stack inside and huge cushions to lounge about on.

Support band Shame were good too. Crazy bassist running all over the stage and doing diving forward rolls whilst playing.

Well Morrissey wasn't bad actually. 3Arena probably about 80% full, well-behaved crowd. Clearly Morrissey's a bit of an arse these days, but the setlist wasn't bad, with some Smiths songs and earlier solo stuff sprinkled in, and his voice is still solid. Sound was bad, but otherwise a solid 7/10.

Next up, the Wailers this time next month
