44th Annual Bob Marley Outernational Reggae festival next weekend to celebrate my 49th birthday. Live reggae bands, DJ's, West Indian food stalls. Bob would have had his 80th birthday this year. Always a good party.
and looks like 2025 is turning into a desert metal type year
1000 Mods ended up on my YouTube feed, their song Vidage will get right into your head, and they're playing Glasgow Feb 11th. Enough to even tempt me out on a weeknight 😆
I saw 1000Mods earlier last year and they were absolutely brilliant, I've been hooked since Vidage popped up on a recommended Spotify playlist a few years ago. Needless to say I'll be making the 3 hour drive south on Tuesday 🤘🏻😎
ELUCID last Thursday at Cafe Oto was great. Long day though and driving through that thre London wasn’t the best fun you can have!
Tonight was Man/Woman/Chainsaw at the Joiners… Joiners was proper packed, people spilling out to the bar area. But I nabbed a great spot at the front, close to the violinist…they are amazing. The violin playing is a joy to behold. See em if you get the chance.
Where’d my post go?I think its time to ditch this forum. I mean, you type a load of shit that no-one really cares about and then it just disappears! What’s the point?
If you mean the ELUCID post it's there, I think you've been caught up in teh delay bug
Bowling for soup supported by Wheatus last week, they're always good for a giggle. Booked tickets for Sabbath at Villa Park on Thursday, looking forward to more Anthrax and Lamb of God.
Don't forget, for you guys in the South West... Toploader are performing at SevernFest 25 a free event.
Fat Dog tomorrow. Should be fun.
Bagged tickets yesterday for the Rock & Roll Circus in Sheffield - QOTSA, Fat Dog, Viagra Boys, The Bug Club, So Good, plus more to be announced. Should be a cracking gig
A change of circumstances mean I have sold my Gentleman's Dub Club and Kruder & Dorfmeister tickets back to Dice. I have two tickets for The Undercover Hippy at Thekla in Bristol if anyone fancies them for a good price.

Hoping to bag tickets for that tomorrow, awesome lineup 👍
Only got tickets for faithless and pendulum at the piece hall so far this year
Pantera last night. Power Trip supporting. Much riffs.
Frank Turner's 3000th (!) show on Saturday night in that there Londinium - seeing Moulin Rouge in the West End on Friday - hoping for a cracking weekend.

Very curious to know what Faithless are like without Maxi Jazz.
Went to see Hinds in Birmingham on Wednesday - great gig and really fun band. My first gig of 25 but determined to do a lot more this year, already got Lauren Mayberry and Divorce booked for next month
Didn't really like Fat Dog. Way too near to the realms of a novelty act for me. Got sick of the fella's nasally voice and went home. If you're pissed and moshing, I'm sure they're great fun, but I'm too old for that shit, been there, done it with the psychobilly craze, which was proper fun in me 20s.
Hoping to bag tickets for that tomorrow, awesome lineup 👍
Did you get in? I managed to bag two which I'm rather pleased about.
Architects early next month, Deftones later in the year, it's shaping up nicely as a good year for gigs.
Yeah got tickets for Wednesday night. Seen QOTSA a few times and theyre great but TBH I'm looking forward to Viagra Boys the most!
We got tickets for the Rock & Roll circus for the Thursday date. Good times.
Seen QOTSA a few times
Saw them supporting Hole at Brixton Academy, remember saying to my mate I thought they were pretty good, they might go somewhere…
Courtney stage diving wearing just a flimsy dress was … interesting!
My next gig is Opeth on Tuesday at Bristol Beacon, looking forward to that.

@princejohn We will be there tonight. Not looking forward to the drive in from Portsmouth but the gig should be worth the effort. Have a dig day prior so 5hrs on the tools, I will probably be asleep at the back by 9.30 😆 😆
Heartworms last night, bloody excellent. 10/10 recommend. Jo Jo Orme and her crew had synchronised dancing, a creepy poem mid set and sounded absolutely great.
Their track Jacked, which, I listened to up some 30 odd switchback Italian pass, takes me right back! Check em' out:
Managed to get a ticket to see the Smashing Pumpkins at Halifax Piece Hall in Summer and looking forward to seeing Primal Scream in Bristol next month.
off to nottingham today to see the murder capital at rough trade, one of those 'cd and signing' jobbies for their 3rd album. theyre probably on around 1pm so it makes for a nice day out and back home around teatime. must admit im not expecting too much from them, absolutely loved the intensity of the 1st album and tour, but was bored with the 2nd.
well they were better than i thought they might be. played around an hour, maybe a bit less and to me the new album is better than their last, but that first album takes some beating. only a tiny venue and it was packed out, hopefully ill get to see them again in a bigger place.
Reluctantly went to see Fish on his Road to the Isles retirement tour in Wolverhampton with a mate last night. Absolutely brilliant, on stage for two and a half hours, excellent dits and banter with the audience, I didn't know much of his solo stuff but got blown away by it all, even did a few Marillion tracks at the end. I hope he is happpy on his croft and it will be music's loss.

Nice to hear that you enjoyed it. I've seen Fish a few times over the last 35 years. (Only once with Marillion, in 85/86.) He can be absolutely great, but can also be absolutely forgettable, and he really enjoys talking so can often yap on about any old crap at the expense of the audience getting bored. At one small gig he seemed to get a bit offended when a woman in the crowd yelled at him to stop being boring, stop talking and play something. Having said that, seeing him play early Marillion stuff to a crowd of people who obviously love him from Marillion (as I do) can feel emotional.
I really dislike his last album though, the nearest of his farewell gigs is Bristol and I'd only be going to say goodbye to one of my teenage favourites, and only based on the music he made 40 years ago. It might make me sad. I'm not sure I want to be sad!
Frank Turner was brilliant on Saturday, a good mix of tunes from his current and past albums. An old chap had tears in his eyes during "Be More Kind". Slightly more appropiate in todays febrile political atmosphere than 1933.
I saw someone had posted a short video of the phone torch bit during Be More Kind. Goosebump moment during the gig and relived watching the video. Usually find moments like that can feel manufactured but like you say, very apt right now. Whole gig was ace, especially liked the video screen behind the stage, very effective.Frank Turner was brilliant on Saturday, a good mix of tunes from his current and past albums. That's a hell of a setlist for Frank there...
Mogwai last night, solid show, not the best setlist for me but still some pretty awesome moments. Always a bit sad when they don't play Helicon. Good supports too, Cloth were't really my thing but Kathryn Joseph is always worth seeing.
Circa waves in The newly refurbished Bristol Beacon ( don’t mention Colston!) last night.
Really good venue. Circa Waves predictably excellent although it’s a big room and the atmosphere could have done with a few more people. Last time I saw them was in a tiny pub room as part of a record release thing and the atmosphere was ”banging” as the kids say.
Think the next smallest Bristol venue is half the capacity and they are a bit caught between selling that out and not quite enough to sell out the beacon. Particularly enjoyed them making the crowd pass a pint back to their lights guy to down while everyone cheered as a goodbye from the tour for him.
Support from Corella who were also great and Peace who were a bit forgettable.
ill also mention seeing Nirvana UK at the fleece a few months ago. Real memory lane trip to be back there after 20 years! Not usually into tribute bands but they were really good and had really dialed the sound and mannerisms. Don’t remember Kurt’s brummiw accent though. lol. They’re a good night out though for us 90s grunge / indie kids.

Albert Hall Manchester for me. Stunningly good.
If I was quibbling, I’d have swapped out the Misplaced Childhood stuff for Fugazi, Market Square Hero & Incommunicado.
Opeth, Bristol Beacon, and yes, that is a genuine Mellotron the keyboard player is using, in fact he’s got two!
I would have liked to see the support but my back was having none of it, there was just enough for the Frank Turner set and pain-killers were needed for the walk back to Wood Green. (It's an old injury I aggravated last Tuesday and we were going to see Frank).
Wood Green was quite a stomp away - the previous night we'd watched a show in the West End & the tube practically dumped us at the door.
Being up in London & there being a venue so far out in the sticks was a bit of surprise to be honest.
Definitely frustrating too, to get there early to grab an overpriced pizza from the venue when the first part of the inside of the venue had a ton of better looking overpriced options.
Nice view tho!
Hopefully getting Stranglers/Buzzcocks tickets this week, other than that I just have Pigs x7 then a Pink Floyd tribute band later in the year. Depending on summer holiday plans and ticket availability, I might get over to Halifax Piece Hall in the summer as there are a few bands I'd like to see performing there.
Geordie Greep in Southampton April, never heard of him. Now our son is 14 it appears he can get into huge amount of previously out of reach gigs. Could be worse I guess 🙂
Meant to add a couple of things to the post about Opeth - fairly early on, Fredrick the guitarist who was right in front of me seemed to flick something, and I felt something hit my chest, looked down and there was a pick on the floor by my feet! The fact there were people in front of me, it’s surprising it missed any of them and hit me. When I had a chance to look at it later on, I realised why he kept flicking them into the audience, the amount of wear on the tip after only two songs or so is quite impressive, and they’re heavy gauge picks.
But then, they are a prog/metal band.
That's a hell of a setlist for Frank there...

I saw them the night before at Leeds - listened to their latest album quite a bit after asking on here (thks for your earlier post), liked it plenty and thought it was great live. Packed house was nice to see as well. Was hoping they would play Fear Satan just to hear it live but they gave it a miss - their hardcore fanbase have probably heard it so many times I guess. Encore was Like Herod and Old Poisons (which I hadn't heard before).
The Bug Club at Electric Ballroom yesterday. Great venue, great band, great gig. Somewhat ruined by a couple of utter nobheads.
I'm not averse to a mosh pit, although a bit old and knees are not particularly receptive nowadays. So I'm OK with there being one last night. But if you're in the mosh pit and you get bounced out of it into the couples at the front, then expect to get shoved back in. It's not personal, it's how it works.
Equally if you and your other half have a space at the barriers, there's a chance that at some point someone's going to bump into the back of you. Shove them back in and get on with it - it's a gig not Last Night of the Proms
Between the two of them, young bloke taking exception to the older bloke shielding his other half, and older bloke calling security and demanding them eject him or something, you managed to ruin what was a good vibe, through the best songs in the encore.
****ts, the pair of you
MIKE at Room 2 in Glasgow last night, with Tyred Jr the younger. I like going to gigs with him, he’s as tall as me so we can stand anywhere. Seeing a talented rapper in a small underground room is always good, last night was no exception.
@northwind - you’ve probably seen but Tolbooth in Stirling have a series on with Scottish artists performing their breakthrough album in full, Kathryn Joseph is doing Bones You Have Thrown Me soon.
Love this thread. Every day I plug a new name into Spotify and wonder what the **** is wrong with peoples music taste (or maybe it's mine) 🤣 That said, MIKE is looking promising, thank you @2tyred
A change from my normal rock gigs last night. Alison Moyet at Sheffield City Hall - just excellent, pure class from start to finish.
Semi-different sort of gig for me too tonight. Paul Heaton and Rianne Downey at Pryzm in Kingston. As Paul himself said, it was a con because he's doing these in conjunction with local record shops (they promoted it and with the ticket you get a copy of the CD/vinyl) - ostensibly to support them, but also in an attempt to boost album sales and get to number one. Which, it ..... didn't, and he blames us for not buying 2 copies 😉
But it was a stripped back electric bass + acoustic guitars and of course two amazing voices. No drums even, because the drummer's tucked up in bed with Lucozade and a comic, suffering from flu. I don't think it detracted, even benefited.
Just a thoroughly lovely hour of entertainment; he's a great songwriter, has a vastly underrated voice - and was blown off stage by a little Glaswegian in her early 20's. Such a voice. Few new songs and a few classics from Housemartins and Beautiful South days, and back home in time for cocoa.
Just brilliant.
Alison Moyet sat on my lap at a party back in the late 80's
This Friday I’m off to ‘campaign for musical destruction’ at Brixton with my son..lots of scrams death metal..
Then on Saturday I’m off to see Sabrina Carpenter with my daughter!
As a classic dad joke, I keep pretending to mix up their gigs!
DrP
MIKE is looking promising
Also have MIKE on Friday in small venue in Brighton. Would've taken desperateJr. but he's working 🙁
The Beta Band.
In September of this year.
I am so excited.

Going to see Kidz Bop this weekend...I'm taking my kids obviously.
Bloodywood later in March in Brum. Love a bit of 'Indian Folk Metal'

He made the same joke when we saw him at the big arena place in Liverpool end of last year - we have two copies of the album because we bought two tickets..
I've got a pretty good run of gigs lined up now:
Michael Kiwanuka on Sunday in Wolverhampton
Mercury Rev the following Friday in Manchester
Public Service Broadcasting the week after back in Wolverhampton
Loopfest in Shrewsbury May Bank Holiday https://loopfest.co.uk/
Superbooth in Berlin in May (epic music tech festival)
A few more https://sygigs.com/ coming up
Cat Power singing Dylan at the Bridgewater in June
End of the Road Festival in August
Machina Bristronica in Bristol in September (part synth expo, part party)
Stereolab in Manchester in December
Did think about Beta Band but dates don't work, might have done Massive Attack in Manchester but again clashes, can't do everything but will try anyway.
