Anyone have experience of giffgaff? Does it work like any other network as in comes out of my bank every month or do I pay upfront?

Ive been on it for about 8 months. Cant fault it, uses O2's network so you'll need to check your local area for coverage. Works like pay as you go, you can buy airtime credit and use as traditional PAYG or use it to buy goodybags to get free texts and minutes.

A recent adition to the goodybags is that you can set them to roll over month afte month, so its effectively like a contract but with no minimum term. I only pay £10 a month for unlimited texts, data and 250 mins.

Ive got a spare sim card if you want it.

Thanks for the offer but I have one on the way. Do I have to top up manually or can it be set to do it automatically?

Been with them a couple of months and it's brilliant so far. Faster data than Vodafone in most places and much cheaper.

I self manage all payment through the website but it's easy. Load with credit then purchase a goodybag as and when needed. It can be set to auto top up and if you have a smart phone you can manage it all from an app too.

The referral bonus is a nice touch. Every time someone cold calls me to sell a phone contract I'm going to turn it round on them and try to refer them a giffgaff sim....

I don't use my phone as a phone that much but for texting and internet access it suits me fine. I now have it on auto top-up at £10 a month.

+1 for giffgaff. Was on O2 contract went sim only saving a fortune now. Have had no problems if you do ask the question on community and you get help.

I'm looking at doing this and sacking off Orange. Assume i'll have to get a new number?

No. You should be able to port your number to GiffGaff. Ask Orange to give you a PAC (Port Authorisation Code).

isn't 6 weeks to port number against the law now? that's what they used to do and government changed it.

My number was changed no probs. within a couple of hours too ,you can set the day you want it done.
If you're phone's Android you will prob. have to reset the MMS and Internet settings manually.Instructions on their site.
You have to buy picture messaging seperately as it's not in the goody bag.
You can set limits on your usage too so you don't over spend etc.
Not seen any better value they even message /e mail you each month to advise you on better value package based on your usage.

Use them for 2 out of 3 smartphones here. Works well although service is a little minimalist - but they are open about this being their model. New rolling goody bags make it easier to manage as well, makes it more like a contract experience than PAYG - but without the usual drawbacks!

Sounds perfect, especially that I can keep my number! Contract is up middle on September so i'll be calling Orange tomorrow.
