So, third price hike this year means I've had it with them and want to look for alternatives.

So....

TV - I don't watch all that much but do like discovery shed channel (!) and TiVo to record stuff. We don't have an aerial fitted as we've always had cable. What are my options here? Can a free sat box do what I want? Do I need to instal an aerial even for that?

Phone - don't use it at all but told we need it for broadband

Broadband, most for browsing the occasionally bit of online gaming, no real streaming or downloading much. Any recommendations?

Aerial will get you the normal digital channels.

A Satellite dish will get you FreeSat.

You don't need a phone for Broadband just a line.

ISP for your Broadband BT is my current recommendation been flawless, fast and unlimited.

I've just had the same letter through this week about the price rise.

We looked at getting Sky but it was expensive and I didn't want to give any money to BSkyB!

BT Vision works out q fair bit cheaper than Virgin, about £20 a month less for the package we're on, and if you use any of the cash back sites, they were also offering £150 cash back and a £50 Sainsbury voucher when you sign up.

Just keep moaning at them. Mine's now £21.50 per month. Broadband and landline only, I told them to stuff the TV.

I was paying £42 p/m for calls and broadband. Phoned them as I had been offered fibre cheaper from Plusnet so they knocked it down to £29 p/m fixed for 2 years but contract only commits me to a further 12 months.

Very happy with this as their broadband is by far and away the best I have used...

Phone & Fibre - Plusnet take the win
TV - Freesat / Freeview + on demand via the web (eg Netflix) + apple tv and air play.

Sky and Virgin's business model will be on the ropes soon.

I decided to leave Virgin and go to BT Broadband after the last hike.

They let me cancel without trying hard to keep me, but then called a few days later and offered £16.50 per month plus a credit of one and a half months.

They nearly kept me but I decided to go with BT for the rugby, Quidco cashback and Sainsburys voucher.
