Tidy. Excellent win there for G. Showed real guts to get through that and get a win for Wales.

It was a bit of an odd route for me. More of a long crit than a road race. That said it ended up being a good race. They rode the first half like a crit then the rest like a classic.

Didn't really matter what the circuit was they made it a hard race.

Yep, he's gutsy and a deserving victor today after his efforts over the last 5 weeks. Bronze in the tt last week as well. ๐Ÿ™‚

Really enjoyed it, Kennaugh (strange but entertaining tactic) for the first 2/3rds then Gee for rest. Get him as lead for the spring classics!

G won the Junior Roubaix a few years ago iirc, would be nice to see him get a proper run at some Classics, about the only thing the Brits haven't won or been on the podium in this recent purple patch.

The whole Welsh team did well, Luke Rowe in 6th and Scott Davies in 10th, and Scott is only 18 and first year in senior ranks, and a really nice guy to boot!
I also think Welsh cycling coaching team have found and coached some top riders (male and female) over that last 5+ years on very little budget compared to BC.

Wasn't able to watch any of the games over here in Deutschland but have been keeping up to date on BBC's online coverage. Congratulations to that Welsh bloke! I think Sky do think he's a future grand tour contender.

Said to a mate this morning I hope Geraint Thomas wins it, deserves to after all the effort he put in the TDF. Also well done to Lizzie Armitstead and Emma Pooley. Not a bad way to end your career with a silver medal.

They just showed a great series of Post race interviews with Geraint, Kennaugh and Dai Miller on BBC Highlights package on the News.

Kennaugh's massive suicidal break must have been sponsored by the Isle of Man tourist Board or something....he hung on in after being caught though...what a tough bugger. Be great to see geraint and him on the same classics squad..

Been trying to find the news program with the interview but so far not had any luck when was it shown?

Aye, a bit mental that one. I'm still wondering why they/he thought that would a good tactic right from the off. Obviously I'm not a professional bike racer but even Boardman seemed a little lost as why the attack came so early in the race. Credit to him for hanging on as long as he did once caught though. And well done to G, awesome riding in nasty conditions.

K attached to form a break, normally "the attacker" just stays of the front for "others" to jump across and form a break.
But no one else went with him, maybe the rain put them off? ๐Ÿ˜‰

His "lead" went out a bit more so he was more committed than he wanted to be I think. I think there was also a chance someone might still try and jump across.

BUT you also got to take The bunch in to account, They let him dangle at a very manageable gap and wear/tire himself out a far bit. K is very good rider and in a shout for a medal, so you don't what him fresh leg at the end!

Thought the chase was just as strange tbh, the move from Haas which was then followed by Archibald (IIRC) flogging himself to a literal standstill in order to reel Kennaugh in.

Thanks Rob, I've been watching road racing for long enough (and occasionally raced myself) to know how it should work, but it obviously didn't work out that way.

I'd of thought Kennaugh would of sat up a rejoined the group once he realised no one was coming with him and then made an attempt to form a bigger break later one, once things had settled slightly. Either that or jumped on the wheel of G/Millar/Tuft/whoever as they made their own moves. It just seemed that as one of the favourites he didn't need to be so aggressive early on and isolate himself like he did.
