Is it just me or does anybody else think the BBC were doing him a favour?

I got the feeling some of his old friends, Linekar etc, got him on that sofa. If it helps him then fair play.

Not sure about doing him a favour. Poor guy looks pretty shot to me.

I felt sorry for him. Hope he keeps it all together.

Seems ironic that a guy who spent his entire career trying to lose weight he now looks like he could do with eating some 'Soggy Sausage Rolls'.

From what i have read about him over the years, he is a very articulate guy when it comes to discussing football and would have made a very good manager. Shame he isnt playing with the full deck anymore.

truly very sad indeed.

He was/is the greatest player I've ever seen live, as a teenager at SJP in the mid-late 80's. No fear, just played for the love of it. He was superb at Italia 90, and i think provided the team with the youthful enthusiam they needed to so nearly fulfill the greatest dream.

After that - money and fame went to his head. Or in hindsight, his so called friends, advisers and agents, let him down very badly. Sorry to say but if he'd gone to Old Trafford (and i think SAF equally regrets not signing him too) he'd have been given far less latitude and would possibly have gone on to be a real great of the game. Albeit I'd have hated for him to go there at the time.

In hindsight, he clearly was never capable of dealing with it all, and that's ruined not only his life, but many others along the way.

Very, very sad.

I must admit that every time I hear a news article starting "Paul Gascoigne..." I immediately think it will be the 'last' one. And part of me thinks that wouldn't be such a tragedy.

PS: a friend met him a few years back at a school presentation event, and said that up close he is clearly an deeply unhappy person. Absolutely genius with a football - he was terrified, literally shaking at having to make a small speech in front of 600 kids who worshipped him.

Bob's claim to fame: Gazza gave me the thumbs up while I was driving along the M8 receiving "oral pleasure" from an ex. 😆
