MegaSack DRAW - 6pm Christmas Eve - LIVE on our YouTube Channel
We have a gas fire in a Victorian fire place which we turned on once 8 years ago. I’m nervous of turning it on again in the A) any seals in the switch or unused gas pipes might have deteriorated an cause a leak an b) there may be lots of flammable content in the chimney built up over the years e.g cobwebs and dust.
Am I worrying unduly and is there a “to do” I should be aware of? Do I need a gas man to service it and someone to check the flue/ chimney first?
Get it serviced, it will be full of crap, who knows when it was last serviced. Flue condition and combustion check for clean burnjng should be part of the service. Have you had the fire isolated from the gas supply, if not I'd not worry too much about gas loss.
OK, I though as much. Looks like a thorough service during the summer is due. Cheers
