Have had an eTrex 20 for several years, no issues.
Haven't used it for months.
Dug it out last week to check, turned on - get white screen flash, screen goes blank. Batteries in good shape. Emailed Garmin support but no response.
Is it fixable within a reasonable budget - and if Garmin won't get in contact, who can fix it? Or eBay as spares/repairs..?
Try re-flashing the software? You should be able to find the latest version on the Garmin site. Download it to PC, connect Etrex to PC and take it from there (I think you have to copy it across and then re-boot the Etrex).
Google would suggest that it seems to be fairly common. Suggested fixes are re-flashing the latest firmware or a reset-to-factory-defaults hard reset (which will wipe any data on it of course). Have you tried those?

Ah, hadn't got down to the nitty gritty of the current software.
It all looks OK - having hooked it up through Garmin Express and the USB cable - but does the white flash thing when its on battery power. Which makes it hard to see if the master reset is working. I'll try some other batteries but might be a power issue.
cheers.
