Re snapped my UCL last month and saw the hand surgeon today.
They are going to do a small op next friday to try to fix it ( again ).
Option 1 is repair the UCL if possible
Option 2 is borrow another bit of tendon from my fore-arm and use it as a graft to join the UCL
Option 3 is a last resort if above 2 fail. Fuse the the thumb joint together.
Anyone had , or know anyone who has had a fused thumb joint?
Just want to know if I will still be able to ride OK ? maybe with some discomfort and shonky gear shifts
( Right hand and Im right handed )
What is a UCL?
Fix it again? Why?
Are you interested in a swap?
SB
Ulnar Collateral Ligament , stabalizes tthe thumb and grip mechanism.
I have already snapped it before , and now it needs fixing again.
Are you Noel Edmonds SMSS?
Function with one of three thumb joints fused is usually surprisingly good and considerably better than chronically unstable MCP joint.

Go 1x10 and get a euro shifter for the left hand, simples.
Take some bars in when they fuse it, that way they can fuse it in the correct orientation for holding handle bars lol.

Pretty much helps to alleviate any fears. Considering options along the CX / Alfine / 1 x 10 fired from left hand as a fall back position.
If that is not an option a road bike and Di2 , although flightdeck should be OK after re-hab / retraining .
You can (or could) also bodge thumbshifters from a special mount and time trialler roadie bar end shifters. They can be operated with and part if your hand really, even the palm.
