Has anyone had crowns added to their front teeth to add strength and support (so my dentist tells me). He proposes a porcelain and gold mix - but i'm keen not to end up looking like Goldie - so i assume they're whiteish.
If it's just a single tooth crown it will fine assuming the teeth either side are good.. The crown will have some natural support from its neighbors but you said crowns (plural) so I dunno..
I had four front teeth crowned about 25 years ago. The crowns are fine, albeit not quite the same colour as my "real" teeth, and sum recession means they don't quite go high enough any more - but they work

Difficult to comment without knowing more specifics but generally the crowns you are talking about have porcelain on the front ( visible) bit and gold on the back / biting surface ( where you cant see)
Gold is stronger in thin section than an all ceramic crown and less abrasive on the opposite tooth. I'm assuming you have some wear on your own teeth and that's part of the reason for looking at crowns. In this scenario, gold backing means you remove less tooth to get the crowns on meaning more strength. less chance of breaking the crowns and less wear on the opposite tooth

I don’t know, but my wife has a porcelain crown front tooth and it feels like it keeps coming off, but in reality it’s probably 5 or 6 years between each drama, as when it falls off she insist on going straight to the dentist to get sorted rather than be seen with a gap. So I say take any strengthening offered.
I've got two front teeth crowned as a result of a car-bike interface circa 1995. My only real complaint is that they haven't aged the same as my real teeth; so I'm going to need some work to make them look like they belong to me now that they're nearly 30 years old - my real teeth have discoloured slightly over the years and they are obviously crowns whereas when I was younger I used to have to shine a torch through them to show they weren't translucent like the rest of my teeth.
I've one broken front tooth resulting from a play fight when 9 or 10. It's about 1/4 of the tooth, not enough to look bad and many people don't notice so I've happily lived with it. However after chipping a bit more off in a clash of heads with my excitable 4yo I'm thinking of getting it built up with composite. Dentist was happy she could do that and advised a crown was ott. So it seems there are options these days
I’ve just recently had my porcelain crowns (both front upper) replaced.
was a bike accident in my teens, which were capped/veneered. In my twenties someone barged past in a pub whilst I was drinking from a bottle, meaning I needed to get both crowned.
Fast forward twenty plus years and my gums had receded showing the black of the dead teeth also quite a gap had developed. So it was re-done.
As a side note the dentist whenever doing a crown/root canal (I have 4) has warned there is a chance of failure and abscess.
Obvs not a dentist but I believe you don’t always need a root canal for a crown, dunno?
I knocked a front tooth out and chipped the two either side playing rugby. I had a porcelain / metal a crown either side and a bridge across the gap.
25 years on, I'm having it all replaced next week due to gum shrinkage and a visible black root on one tooth. There is also a slight black line visible on the other crown.
Dentist has recommended Zirconia crowns and bridge which are metal free so just white and more natural looking.
I have one with a post after a chain jump induced face / tarmac incident. It looks better than the original tooth did since that was large and wonky. I'm 5 years in to it and still looks fine so far. I'm still scared of eating apples and toffee but that's mostly for the tooth next to it that took a hammering but survived.
