Can any of you fine gents point me in the right direction for a new front door.
I can't seem to find anything mid budget ... there are lots of cheap moulded plastic or as soon as you type into google "contemporary"... lots of 4 grands worth of oak.
Is there a middle ground?
Or am I barking up the wrong tree... in thinking that there are "off the shelf" possibilities. When in reality I need a good joiner and get something specifically made… which I realise will probably not be mid budget

I got one from the local window company that was layered plastic and looks pretty posh. Composite, they're called. Cost around a grand.
Rock doors - solid as and around 1k
+1 for rock doors. Have a stable door on the back. Looks and feels great.

I had ours custom made, wanted Victorian style and thicker than standard doors (65mm) so it could take stained glass with a double glazed panel fitted behind. Cost about £1000 IIRC.

Jambourgie well at least that has no gap at the bottom from door to cill ! Or should I say top !
Still waiting for a replacement to be fitted .
Ps don't use Munster joinery !
If you don't like the uPVC ones, look for composite as a middle ground.
You are probably looking £750-900 fitted, I think.
Most double glazing places should be able to source them.
We used Uk oak doors for all our internal doors (fitted two months ago) and they are fantastic.
They do external doors too...

But... and there's always a but.
Your advice please on Oak ... more specifically engineered/veneer oak.
The door I like is a Part L rated Oak veneer over maple and/or beech.
Are these type of doors any good ?
Now I haven’t got a porch or any real weather protection to this door (it’s North facing btw) is this a problem ?
And I plan to paint it
I know …. Why get an oak door then paint it?
Well I really like the design and can’t find anything like it in other materials… So apart from not seeing the natural beauty of the oak is there any other reason why this might be a fool’s errand.

Last longer than Pine, won't have knots oozing oil for years to come. Tougher to fit locks, hinges to though...
Composite door??
We're in the same position, trying to find a new door, trouble is to get the right width, we would need to take 100mm off the top of the new door..
Or, by a standard height door, and then build a rebate.
Not quite sure which is the best way around...
Oh,and a quote for a composite door was over £2k..
