A mate has just bought his 1st track off iTunes but his Samsung player won't recognise MP4. Can anyone recommend a genuinely free downloadable file converter which is not an option to buy version.

if it's an iTunes+ m4a file iTunes should be able to convert it (in itunes advanced options set your encoding to whatever mp3 resolution you fancy and then use the menu advanced-->create mp3 version). Failing that, the approach I've taken is to burn to an audio disc and then your mate can reimport/share that.
if it's an m4p (DRM protected file) then you might be able to take the same conversion route. again, failing that burn it to an audio disc.
or, your friend could get an iPod?
