Yeah, sad news. Remember his Roubaix wins in particular but also in some ways more impressive were the Italian team world champs/Olympics wins which if you know what the Italian teams tended to be like (eg they'd fight more amongst themselves than with their supposed opposition) you know was something impressive.

Indeed sad news. As well as top rider he was also Italian coach & always seemed to select & motivate the right guys for great results in the World Road Champs.
They mentioned it over here during the cyclocross TV coverage yesterday. Was the navigator in a rally car that crashed...
