Edit, just read your post Colin. Yes, I agree that the pop ups are inexcusable. 21 before I managed to log in earlier today.

But how much fun has this place given you over the years?

How many excellent people have you met?

How much advice have you received about life, bikes, pies and other, less important things?

How many genuine friends have you made?

It's been a month. Not a huge amount of time in the great scheme of things.

The people who own and run this place are human too. Things don't always go as planned. Life is complicated.

I've taken more out of Singletrack than Singletrack has taken out of me. How about we all chill the **** out and show a little patience?

I agree with that comment, but the Porn Pop Ups/Redirects are inexcusable.

Soz.

Still asking pretty please for a simple button at the bottom of a thread which takes you back to the overview.

Reading on mobile and having to reach right across the screen to top left every time is like having an iPhone. 🤔

A screen finger shimmy, a click then another click to get back to overview currently.  A single button at the bottom like before would be rad! 😁

Do you not have the overlay "top of thread" button bottom left?

Issue I have found is trying to access previous threads I have posted on. When you go to your posts in profile it won't open the thread that the post was in, just the actual post

grahamt - on that "replies" page, click on the little # at the bottom of each of the posts and you go to the thread

That was VERY lucky for me, as I was that what I was trying to find out. Not very clear or wide known?

Maybe they can do some bullet points on some of the new ways on how these (new) things work!

And maybe make that page default, to save having to keep clicking through to it, I am no fussed on what threads I started, if there been any replies etc it show on the "previous threads I posted on"

Edit. Yes, I see what you mean, the little translucent thing, but still, that's still taking me back to top of page where I have to make yet another click to get to overview.

Life's too short for two clicks.

Yeah, I see what you meant now, but yeah, it was better before where you didn't need to go back to the top of the page unnecessarily.

I got things to do man....ain't got time to go backwards. 😉

Had another autocomplete problem. No matter what I did the text input is blobking me selecting the correct spelling of a mistyped word. See the example in previous sentence. This is the only site with this problem.

<span style="text-decoration: underline;">same here </span> on the typing problem and also pop-ups and redirect pages making certain threads inaccessible. Doesn't happen on other sites

Yep, the typing is becoming infuriating. Whilst I don’t do my ch typing on many websites other than this one on my phone, I do write lots of emails and use the FB app a fair bit. Yet only here does it look like a dyslexic elephant has been typing on my iPhone. Latest os, etc.

iPad 4th gen, 10.3.3, safari.

every so often the links back to the sub forums that surround the thread title at the top of the page are completely unresponsive, so either browser page back or try to find the main links which get tangled up in everything at the very top of the page.

Hate to kick a man when he’s down but as a long term subscriber and forum lurker, this implementation has been a bit shambolic. To have so many of the fundamentals not working is beyond ‘a few bugs in the system’. Speed and functionality aren’t even on par with some 1 man band website forums. As a Mac user, the speed and clumsiness is particularly frustrating as it seems even worse on Mac than PC, and certainly slower on desktop than mobile.

Appreciate that the software is probably far more complicated than a layman like me can understand but since the previous version seemed to work so well, why was the new version introduced in such an unfinished state? This seems a perfect case of if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it (but there may have been reasons beyond what is visible that made the change necessary).

Having lived through the pain of several large scale software changes professionally the moto seems to be test, test and test again prior to implementation. That doesn’t seem to have happened here.

Surely there must be some recourse to the developers that sold this software to you?

I have cancelled all of my print subscriptions except Singletrack (and there a lot!). With the internet of things I can get the news I want quicker than waiting a month. Despite much of the magazine content finding its way onto the site I persevered with Singletrack partly to help support/fund/acknowledge the broader community side. I am not about to cancel my subscription in protest, but it is another nail in the coffin. When print media disappears (which seems an inevitability) the strength of the website will be all the more important.

As a Mac user, I'd expect a flaming for that 😉

Ha ha, my point wasn’t ‘as a Mac user I expect better’. It is that for some reason the site works better on my clunky work laptop than my MacBook at home, which is usually faster in every respect.

Oh, i thought the Auto-complete was just some weird thing with my android tablet.. Although it does only happen on this forum i must admit.. Now i know.

Posting is slow, my last post, from being clicked, to then showing in the thread was 24s.

Is it just me or does the 'Overview' index page not seem to be updating?

OK Thanks Klunk. I think it seems pretty random, could be linked to the speed issues already noted.

Just been looking for earlier editions of the mag on the site - are they all supposed to be available to download to subscribers, because all I can see for the few I've tried beyond the first pageful is the pre-publication puff piece for the mag, maybe some links for GPX files and no link to the actual pdf etc so I can read it. Apologies if I've missed something obvious, or an explanation has already been given somewhere in the past 70 pages.

There is next to no banter on the forum anymore. The volume of traffic seems to have fallen through the floor.  I am sure someone will come along and quote a stat to prove otherwise, but the forum does seem to be a less interesting place now. Have loads of people just switched off?

I certainly haven't been posting as much as I did (many might suggest that's a good thing) - mostly related to changes in how I'm working, but the speed of the site and other issues has certainly contributed to it feeling less welcoming as a place to banter.

Said Perchy to himself....

It is really quiet, I certainly don't bother to follow up on posts I've made as it's a right PITA only to find nobody has replied, I figure a lot of people are doing the same. Stuff isn't  popping back on the front page as often and certainly lunchtime is more like 11pm these days

Redirects happening on Amazon Fire HD running the latest FireOS all weekend. Just enough time with the back button to login and get to the forum, loggged out by the forum every time I closed the browser (Firefox side-loaded from Google play). Just a little annoying as I was away from home.

It did need fixing, because it was broken in a way which wasn't obvious to users. However you're spot on with the rest of your comments - that it needed updating is no excuse for the way it was implemented (I note that when challenged Mark has simply trotted out the known that it needed updating and ignored questions about the implementation - well apart from telling all us professional software devs working on web stuff with db back ends that we couldn't possibly understand without seeing it).

As I understand it, they've not all been uploaded yet but it's on the to-do list.  The current edition should be available though (and maybe last month's).

The big issue there is the difficulty of following threads you've posted on, which like many others used to be my primary means of interacting with the forum. Sure they've kind of fixed it, but apart from the slightly hidden nature of the links, that you get a page full of your replies to the same thread rather than a list of different threads and that you can't tell if anybody has replied since your last comment, the most irritating thing is that rather than a single click it now takes about 4 to reach that page which isn't very funny when it takes so long to load each page. It kind of kills quick forum interaction.
